Luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 10% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.

Theres a barely discernable "Enjoy By" date on the front label by the moon. "Enjoy By" 2014 is a candidate for the holy grail; it is perfect and mind-blowing and there is nothing better...cloudy nectarine color, beautiful when you hold it to the light; rich carmel-y, nutty bread dough and pine complexity finishing into something completely different from where it started. "Enjoy By" 2015 is completely average...darker in color and clear, the rich complexity and butterscotch-ness isnt there, and its therefore a short-lived trip. This is a bottle conditioned ale that lends itself to cellaring, so in 12 months time, will "Enjoy By 2015" morph into what "Enjoy By 2014" is now? Maybe. But its hard to imagine it transforming itself to that extent. Buyers Guide: If it appears cloudy in the bottle and the yeast is stacked at the bottom, buy in mass. If clear in the bottle with just a little yeast at the base, avoid if your intent is to drink now.

On 2/17/17, opened a bottle from 2013. Initial thick head that turns to lacey; nice copper hue; nose of sweet malt; Nice smooth warming mouthfeel; Taste of sweet woody orange citrus malt with some bitterness followed with a lingering finish of bittersweet candy malt.

(Bottle, 0.65 l - BB 12 Oct 2021, at Kittys, 20170215) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses ,grass and sweetness. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, grass, molasses, pine, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, hoppy and bitter. A good malty brew with hop bite and it hid its high ABV well.

13.02.2017, 0,65l bottle @ home:
Big slightly fizzy-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is sweet fruity, leafs, minerals, fruit stones, caramel malts, grass, dried fruits, raisins, alcohol, hops, bark, citrus peel. Taste is sweet boozy, weeds, leafs, alcohol, minerals, harsh hops, fruit stones, sugar, bark, dried fruits, hay, sawdust, cardboard, soil. Longlasting harsh bitterness, boozy mouthfeel. Fair enough.

2013 vintage. Smells super fruity (fresh & juicy). Flavors are a combo of dark fruits with toffee & caramel syrup in the middle. Finishes with citrus hops & booze. Very warm & long finish. The trifecta of fruits, hops, & booze is well balanced here.

Drinking the 2013 vintage on 1/05/17. Deep Amber/copperish hue with a thin ivory cap. Bright earthy toffee and bitter leafy hop aroma with a boozy English malt tone. Bright leafy piney hop bitterness on the flavor with a big boozy Barleywine background with nutty toffee and warming alcohol phenols. Smooth and earthy hoppy bitter profile with a warming malty finish.

bomber @ Beer Trappe / Lexington KY --- 2014 --- Aroma of dark malt and toffee. Hazy amber brown color, ivory head that slowly drops to a full cover, sheets of lace. Taste is rich toffee malt, medium fizz, and light hops that never conquer the malt. Some alcohol warmth at the end. A big-bodied, solid Barleywine, easy to drink, and easy on the gut. I like it.
