750ml bottle from Specs, drank @ home, 6:28pm, 12/9/2011 .. . Pours a deep amber brown, strong foam head, light sticky lacing .. . smoke, sausage skin, sweet tobacco, christmas berries, dark fruit, and light yeast .. . a few sprinkles of genius with a chance of doom, also light touches of alcohol and spice .. . This is pretty nice stuff, the dubbel base is an interesting take on a smoked beer and this brew is definitely a change of pace .. . . Who am I clowning? I have no business being a clown! I’m leaving the clowning business to all the other clowns in the clowning business. Lorenasa (160) - Florida, USA - MAR 22, 2012
Pours a dark amber with a very thick lasting tan head. Aroma has a light smoke smell and a stronger hop and minerality aroma. A much stronger smoked flavor than expected from aroma. Finishes with a slightly bitter hoppiness with a noted alcohol flavor. Overall an enjoyable experience. malrubius (3045) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - NOV 26, 2011

Bottle courtesy of blankboy. Deep amber-brown pour. The aroma is rich and smoky. Nice beechwood character with a touch of spice and smoke. A little bit of fruitiness behind the smoke along with some light clove. A bit of peat and a lot of fruit with a nice peppery character. Tasty and pretty lovely.

Effervescent translucent red-brown, wispy white head with ring. Salty smoke, earth, leaves rule nose. Flavor is sharply smoky, bit sweet with some chocolate, plum and a long smoked malt finish. Quite dry, moderately smoky throughout, bitter some chocolate and date from dubbel, and balanced. mansquito (6971) - Nueva York, New York, USA - OCT 24, 2011
Whole Foods, P st, DC 750ml ($9): Pours a brownish color with a cream colored head. Aroma is strange. At first, it is like an Aecht Rauchbier, hence smoky malts. But, on a few whiffs I got the Belgian yeast and almost nothing else. It seemed like the further I would sniff down my glass the more Belgian it got. The smoke is pretty heavy at the front of the taste and it goes throughout. Like others have noted, the dubbel is not quite that powerful, but it does provide a nice malt backbone and maybe even a subtle sweetness throughout. It is just generally hard to fight the smoke, especially when it is dispensed in amounts like in this beer. If you quaff it, right at the end the dubbel comes out. Alcohol brilliantly covered. While this might not be exactly what is advertised, it is damn good. adrian910ss (2597) - Doylestown, PA, USA - OCT 25, 2011
750 ml corked bottle. Pours a deep yet clear reddish amber color with a medium sized cream colored head. Aroma of lightly smoked malts, dark fruit notes and beef jerky. Taste is much the same same as the aroma. Nice and not overdone. keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - OCT 26, 2011
I poured this from a 750ml bottle dated September 27, 2011 into a pint glass. Otto pours a clear deep garnet color with a foamy sand colored head. Carbonation bubbles rise up throughout the drink. On the nose the beer is very smokey, in a smoked ribs sort of way, the smell continues into the taste blending with malts. Cybercat (6219) - Georgia, USA - NOV 10, 2011
Otto sounds gross, but it’s not, it’s just not for everyone. This would be a perfect beer for sitting around an autumn campfire with a BBQ going.
Pours a lovely clear mahogany with a very thick, if not persistent, light tan head. Malty aroma has smoky, peaty and caramel notes. Flavor fills the mouth with malt, fruit, and barbecue smoke with caramel and floral hints. There is also a whisper of sweetness and a touch of hoppy bitterness. Smooth texture has plenty of body and a good amount of fizz.
