Burnished, deep bronze in color with ruby highlights, this looks like a different kind of porter because it is. Smokey nuances emerge from under lean, roasted malt and give the earthy impression of smoked, oily almonds. Hops hold through to balance this off as a surprisingly nuanced and refreshing porter.

On tap at The Cheeky Monk in Denver. Listed as "Barrel Smoked Porter". Black as a good stout, with a light brown head to boot. Great oaky aromas, with smoked malt, a small small bit of chocolate, and some wildflowers. Taste was surprisingly mellow from a Victory brew. But for what its worth, it tasted much more than its ABV would lead on. Flavor starts a bit bitter from the hops, with generous smoked malts doing much of the work as well. Smooth barrel oak tones soon follow, with smoked malts still dancing on the palate. It ends with some sweet chocolate. Very well made. Also, it went stupendously with our beignets..

Draft at DLD. Pours black. Nose is sublte smokey notes, roasted grain and cocoa. Taste is soft smoke that balances well with a full flavored porter, notes of roasted grain, oatmeal and subtle hopping. Nice.

On draft at Capones. Pours a deep maple color with a creamy medium sized light brown head. Aroma of smoked meat, toothpaste, toffee, roasted malt and fruit. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

Very one dimensional, not a great aroma and light body. Not a lot of malt presence. Very dry and absolutely no sweetness. Tastes a bit like liquid smoke. The body is what concerns me most.

Solid porter. Nice and smokey. Good roasted aroma and flavor, a strong malt character, and a strong body. Had it on tap at the Pony Bar

Growler shared by bruce at SL... Nice smoke beer... Nice smokiness with some coffee/roasted malt aroma. Taste is smokey....some breakfast meats in there as well. Well balanced and not overdone/underdone... Texture is average as well. IMO a nice smoke brew, thanks bruce for sharing the beers tonight!

Extremely standard porter. Lots of toffee and some slight coffee and theres the smoke as usual. Very wet ale, and its smoke isnt like cigar smoke but just a bit of heavy humid thick smoke that could be done without. Not too impressed, but I could drink a load of these and not tire from it. I wouldnt be excited either. Just mediocre, to me.

Tap at BT for the victory promo. Pours a deep woody brown with a modest lasting head. Aroma is more of a meaty woody smoke- with some light wire electrical fire hitn- nutty and toasted malts, with a light dried chocolate malt dried nuttiness to it. Flavro is more zesty and wirey smokiness, meaty astringent woody smoke- almsot chery or peach-wood but nto as harsh- and not overwhelming- slight matchstick as well and some smooth sweet malts in the end. Ok, but not great.

Very standard and good-tasting porter. Works better than their Baltic, I think, but nowhere near the depth or perspective of their lighter "small" brews like the pils or wheats. Not terribly "smoked."

Tap at Blind Tiger. Thin head. The aroma is lovely and smokey. Rich chocolate and cocoa along with a bit of soft bitterness. A bit of earthiness and a soft toasty malt character. Good balance of cocoaish toasted malts and the malt sweetness. The smoke is definitely apparent, but it is very well-balanced. Soft lingering rauch smoke. A solid effort with excellent integration of the smoke with the other malts.
