COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

750 ml corked and caged bottle courtesy of BeerandBlues2 (thanks Brad) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, red wine, oak, vanilla and light cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, cocoa, red wine, light oak and light vanilla with a smooth lingering cocoa finish.

Poured from bottle, aroma is pretty solid, nice amount of dark fruit mixed in with some wine tannin and some malt, the flavor has a really sweet front end with a chocolate and malt finish with the oak really coming through, the booze does come through which I wasn’t really expecting at being 8.5%, would have thought it’s closer to 10% by the way it tastes, still not bad, just doesn’t blow me away. Also good for the price point.

On tap at HopCat Lansing. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is fruity with oak, chocolate, cherries and toffee. Taste is sweet and fruity with dates, plums, oak, mild sugar and alcohol. Not bad but a touch chalky.

750 mL. Deep brown with thin tan head. Damp drift wood , chocolate, grapes, vanilla, and tobacco aromas. Taste is dryly sweet. Body is heavier with a sticky feel. This would be a good cigar beer.

At Bangers and Lace. I quite liked this. Woody, vinous, dried fruit, and a little bit tart. Not overly oakey or anything like that. Serving; Tap

Aromas of purple grapes, cocoa, vanilla, and Heath bar. Dark reddish brown with a lasting, small khaki head. Winey and a little tart, with notes of milk chocolate and cherry. Medium bodied, creamy, and finishes with a small burst of dark berries, and a dry, mouth-watering finish.
