Victory Brewing Company is known for melding traditional styles and unique concepts to produce the highest quality, full flavored beers. Red Thunder does just that. By aging their popular Baltic Thunder in once-used red wine barrels from Wente Vineyards, Victory Brewing Company created Red Thunder. The burnished cocoa creaminess of the Baltic-style porter is accented by the tannic dryness of the wood to produce a rich, fruity final product.

Oak aroma. Vanilla. Strong malt, choclatly. Dessert like. A sipper but very nice.

Dark brown with a tan head. The aroma and flavor are very nice. I get some nice chocolate and roasted malt, but what really shines is the red wine and oak notes. I get a hint of tartness and tannic character in the flavor from the wine, which really goes well with the Baltic porter base beer. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice.

Bomber into snifter glass, deep dark brown with dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt sweetness, dark dried fruits, very light coffee, slight sourness and red wine. Taste is pretty wine forward, added notes of grapes, honey, liquorice, smoke and oak. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy, soft complex with a woody roasty finish. Nice dance between Baltic porter and red wine wood, pretty good.

750ml corked and caged bottle. $7.99. Deep brown black body, with a thin, oily beige head. Chocolate, coffee, caramel aroma with a hint of red wine sourness. Quite a balanced beer, the wine notes are delicate and really accentuate the chocolate tones in the beer. Completely delicious. Lots of flavors and facets to enjoy. Doughy brown chocolate, vinous oak, mild hops. Excellent, sublime beer.

SpringsLicker (3644) - Tennessee, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roast malt caramel, wine maybe some smoke. The start is that of a rich smooth dark beer then the wine comes along to finish. Sort of s strange one, but I think they have pulled this off actually. Just hard to compare it to anything else offhand.

Braudog (6763) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - NOV 1, 2013
Bottle, caged/corked. There’s a definite wine aroma on this ... funky and wild, too. This drinks with a musty bite, not at all like a porter as listed ... more like a Flemish sour, rich with a caramel malty base, and a big time woody, wild finish. (#5306, 11/1/2013)

JBPortland (1547) - Hampton Roads, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2013
750ml bottle pours dark black brown with 1 finger head. Nose is roasty bitter coffee, boozy notes, musty wine. Mouthfeel is sharp, slick, medium body. Taste is bitter coffee, wine, earthy oak notes, smoky notes. The wine is a powerful presence. Finish is chocolate and subtle woody notes, sweet fruity notes and a lasting bitterness. Pretty good, but the wine presence overpowers. (From 10/30 notes)

Comes out of the growler an opaque dark chocolate brown with a decent tan head. Rich aroma has notes of roast malt, coffee, caramel, licorice, and semi-sweet chocolate. Lip-smacking flavor delivers all that the aroma promises - plus an undertone of wine-soaked wood that gives the flavor a delightful but not overpowering kick. Texture is firm and smooth, though a bit lacking in the tingle department. Who needs Blue Thunder when you have Red Thunder?

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2015 On tap at Fermentation Lounge. Only have a sparse note: Cocoa. roasty. little sour vibe. Creamy. Wine. Oak. Very nice.

Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, wood and a hint of red wine. Dark fruit and red wine flavors with wood, roasted malt and chocolate. Medium body with average carbonation. I really enjoyed this one.
