Bottle cheers to Colin for this get. Pours a clear chestnut brown with a big, frothy beige head. Nose is big liquorice and milk chocolate with bright red berries coming through - raspberry, cranberry and some tarty cherries. Taste is more vinous and tarty than the nose which works in nice balance with milk chocolate and roasted coffee. Loads of raspberry and blueberries. Woody and earthy stuff. Booze has a nice presence. Not over the top barrel ageing, works very well with the bold notes this beer has. Really well done brew madmitch76 (25568) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JAN 17, 2014

Tasting at the pad of the ever gracious Bruce. Thanks to renowned author and publisher Mr Bois. Hazy amber - brown beer, little pale tan head. Smooth palate, soft malt, litle cream. Nice touch of wood, very slightly bitter. Ligt red wine fruity tang. Marmalade bitterness. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Good stuff.
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Colin. Pours clear, rich brown with a foamy beige head. Dusty cocoa on the nose with a bit of wood, dried berries. Light to medium sweet flavor, loads of barrel presence, dry toffee, tangy wood. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Dry, burnt wood finish with slight dark and tangy berries, oak, tannins, hints of earth and chocolate. Tasty though the barrel is quite present. pinkie (470) - New York, USA - JAN 12, 2014
Pours a coppery brown, not quite opaque and will show you some ruby if you look deeply. The head was not as fat or as persistent as it should have been but it was tan and creamy . There was a large stream of bubbles coming up from the bottom and perfect clarity on this not quite black beer.Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - JAN 10, 2014
Nose is malty rich sweetness. Complex malt. It sports aromas of caramel, chocolate that is light and sweet and a smooth coffee. Dark fruits are raisin and dried fig. As it warms it begins to show a nutty quality. There is no hop presence on the nose at all. The alcohol is estery and a bit sweet. it has a wine scent from the barrel and there is nothing burnt here although ti is very roasty.
Taste is smooth and the mouthfeel is full bodied even though a moderate carbonation keeps it light on the tongue. The beer starts sweet with malty richness and the sweet dried fruits. Then the dryness of the toasted grain and a bit of alcohol takes the middle and really allows all the complex malt flavors to show themselves. Smooth roasted coffee, light sweet touch of chocolate, caramel, dried fruit that is not heavy and a little bit nutty. Finishes dry, bitter and with a lingering aftertaste that shows a touch of hop spice. Perfect.
Smooth and perfectly composed, this beer is light on the palate, rich and very debonair. Wonderful balance.
Amber brown. Quick thin head.
Aroma is tannic, fruity cherry, oaky.
Flavour is cherry, vanilla, licorice? Woody.

Bottle. Dark, reddish brown with a thin off white head. Aroma of wine and wood, combined with some chocolate and malt flavors. Taste is complex, sweet wine notes, wood and malts... Very nice beer, very well executed... DocJitsu (2036) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - JAN 4, 2014
Pours a red-amber golden color with a tan head. Wet and slightly scrubby textures. Smokey red wine nose. Wood barrel char, barrel wood, red wine, and sorghum flavors. Interesting and good. DCLawyer (2914) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - DEC 30, 2013
Draft->snifter. Reddish brown with faint tan head. Complex aroma and taste, with oak, wine, earth, chocolate malt, notes of dank hops. Good, but not great. ARMed (625) - Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 28, 2013
Beautiful barrel aged brew from Victory. Enjoyed this
Is beer with Joeyplush. Subtle vineous flavoring porter that hides the overall alcohol content very nicely. Great holiday warming beer! nittanytide (289) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 27, 2013
Poured opaque black with little head. Faint cocoa and red wine aroma. Mouthfeel is a little watery. The wine barrel aging comes out in the taste; cabernet notes are more apparent than the porter.
