Tap. Pours cloudy brown with a small, fizzy white head, low retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, toasted, nutty), light hops (woody), and light esters (fruity) with notes of smoke. Flavor is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, hay, straw, toasted, nutty), light hops (woody), and light esters (fruity) with notes of smoke, wood, and charcoal. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation, low creaminess with a dry and biting finish.

On tap at Victory. Poured a medium and lighlty hazy golden color with a very small sized head. Aromas of smoke (camp fire and smoked meats) with some banana coming through. Tastes of smoke (but not as strong as in the aromas), some fruitiness, and spices.

Tap at Barcade. Hazy golden-amber beer. Aroma is lightly smokey, soft spicy maltiness with a kiss of banana yeastiness. The smoke seems to come more in the form of yeasty phenolics rather than actual rauch malt. Crisp spicy yeast character over some nice rich wheaty malts. Pretty nice brew.

Draft. Yellow orange with a white head. The aroma is floral and perfumey with honey, spices and fruity esters. The flavor has nutmeg up front with honey, lemon, banana, and herbal smokey notes. Decent.

Poured a murky golden / light brown color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, clove, smoke, light citrus, vanilla, and wood. Taste of citrus fruits, vanilla, banana, clove, burnt wood, smoked meats, and black pepper, with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Carbonation was a little high for my liking here.

Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2011
On tap at Rustico - Alexandria. Served in a stange. Pours a deep ruddy brown without much of a head at all. A good swirl rouses up a single-finger head with some off white to tan coloring, though that refuses to stick around for very long. The nose brings some nice banana and clove along with some roasted malt and a tad bit of smoke. The taste acts in the same manner, as the German yeast characteristics sit well alongside a bit of roasted malt, and then the smoke and slight meaty characteristics really don’t come forward until the finish. The finish is fairly dry and leaves a nice smoky taste covering my palate. Drinks quite well as this is really well done and the whole beer experience follows a nice progression from weizen to rauchbier. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-29-2010

Draught at the Brewery: Aroma of coriander, apples, cloves, and a little smoke. Poured golden/amber in color, with a small, dense, creamy, white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Very sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of yeast, fruit, cloves, and some smoke. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Dry, sweet finish. More of a weizenbock than a smoked.

TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - SEP 1, 2008
On tap at Victory. Pours a lightly hazy amber with lots of golden notes and a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of banana, clove, great smokey notes, wheat and kind of sweet. Flavor was pretty much a match of the aroma. Again a touch on the sweet side...but at 7.4% that is expected.

Tap at Barcade. This is pretty much just pure weizenbock. I get very little smoke. Lots of peanut brittle, flower, banana esters in the nose. Chummy orange, unfiltered pour. Full wheat and very bubble-gummy flavor, a bit thin, with only a hint of hammy smoke in the finish. Not a failure by any means, but I’d appreciate a lot more smoke and dark maltiness in this.

From the tap poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Smokey flavor, not as strong as their other smoked beer, but still smokey with a lingering aftertaste.
