A full, brassy nose of noble German hops leaps from this beer as roasted malt aromas play in the background. The dry, toasted malt flavor takes over the tongue like a crisp, dark pretzel while the hops bring a mineral sharpness as a refreshing finish to this dark lager.

medium brown with large white head. Some bitterness with roast finish before a lot of munich sweetness before a touch of noble flavor and a dry finish. Verall a bit sweet for a schwarz with far too little roast.

Tap at RNH. Poured as the Victory braumeister Schwarz Pils. Pours a very deep woody amber (not black or schwartz at all), clear, good lasting dense off beige head. Aroma is intense spicy german hops, fresh grassy spice, herbal notes and almost sweet flowery hops with good full bready malts, pils, and light burnt toast with touch of sweetness- no roast, no chocolate to cover the hops. Flavor is similar- big bready pils malt, light carapils, slight vienna breadiness, toast, and huge fresh green german hops, zesty and spicy near the end- with a great balanced malt-hop finish yet still incredibly drinkable. Firm yet crisp. Awesome stuff. Best beer of the year so far.

Draught. Pours v dark with slightly creamy head and red brown tinges. Not much aroma. Weird malt and grass. A very odd one.

Chestnut brown pour, beutiful foamy head and great lacing. Flavor was some dark roasted malted flavor with a slight fruity zing. Funky noble hop flavor. This really worked for me. Kudos to Victory...worth the trip to the brewpub.

Deep copper pour. Aroma had plenty of earthy hops and medium roasty malts. Bitter like a hopped up pils but with a light roasted malt note, too. Finish had a nice bite to it. Not what I expected but quite nice.

On Tap at the Victory Brew Pub, Downingtown. Brown/Copper in color with a thin white head. Bready, grassy aroma. Dry, grassy hops dominated the tasting. Decent.

From a growler picked up at the brewery... into a pilz glass. Pours a really nice auburn brown. Tons of fluffy head and accompanying lacing. Aroma of grass and more grass. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Nothing like a schwartzbier but spot on for a pilsner. Great crisp grassy and light hoppy taste. It’s got some bite/zing to the taste and aftertaste. The dark malt is slightly noticeable in that there’s a very mild smokey flavor but it works well with the hops for some reason. Overall, an awesome pilsner... yet another in a long line by Victory.

(Old BA rate - tap, BT 09) Orangey golden brown color; with a generous frothy slightly off-white head; no real lacing, but OK retention. Hoppy; sweaty gym socks and musty; kinda weird here; light maltiness. Great hoppiness; slightly earthy; bigger malt than some others in the style. Nice stuff. Lighter to medium body; good spritzy carbonation. Really darn good considering the flavors as well as the refreshing and dry finish. Overall, this was very enjoyable

Draught at TND: Aroma of slight citrus, light caramel, light hops, light earth, and slight malts. Poured deep amber/light brown in color with a small, creamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Very sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of Hellertau hops, grains, dark malts, slight rye, and pumpernickel. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Hellertau hop finish.

TomDecapolis (4636) - Milton, Delaware, USA - AUG 5, 2009
Tap at Victory. Pours a deep brownish amber with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of toffee, toasted bready malt and nuts. Flavor toasted malt, bitter hops, nuts, bready pils malt.
