COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2012 The storm king will get drunk thats for sure. A lot more hoppy then a typical stout. Ive had this beer many times and at times the boozy smell can take a little from it. Pours jet black w a small coffee looking head, and has a very complex taste to it. Overall very good

Bottle, Wine Warehouse. This is one I'd assumed I'd tried every time I saw it - and perhaps I did and somehow didn't rate it. But today I was determined to take home a case of singles I'd yet to rate and I checked everything in the store until I got to 24 - and lo and behold, no rating for Storm King. Pours dark brown with a soft tan head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, caramel, light coffee, sweat. Flavor is dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee beans and liquid, earth. Nice bitter back end. Flavorful but not complex. Very solid.

Pours almost black from the bottle. Medium beige head. Palette is strong, but not over bearing. Flavor is very good with coffee overtones and caramel after taste. Great beer to accompany your dinner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice aroma of roasted malts and coffee, a bit of earthy hops and a bit of alcoholic spiciness. Taste follows the nose, being a nice standard to the impy profile. Nice roasted malts profile, a bit dusty, not very complex but good nonetheless. Bitter, roasty aftertaste.

Almost too much, not a beer to be taken on lightly. Delicious deep complex flavors, but a bit of harsh or even burnt on the end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour black, but not as thick as many imperial stouts, with a thick head that lingers. Aroma is hops with slight roast. Taste is initially bitter hops, evolving into roast. Aftertaste in slight hops. Not among my favorite stouts.

17.10.2017, 12 oz bottle @ home:
Big brown bubbly-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sour-ish roasted, dark malts, sour-ish roasted grain, sour coffee, toast, dark sugar, grass, alcohol, hops, minerals, licorice. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish roasted, bark, burnt toast, alcohol, sour-ish roasted grain, sour coffee, harsh hops, grass, hay, paper, hints of licorice. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly harsh sour-ish roasted mouthfeel. Fair enough, not really my cup of tea.

From Aug 2006 Poured from 12oz bottle(Enjoy Mar 16 11) a pitch black with a medium sized head of foam that shrunkly quickly but left a solid layer with lacing. The smell is all roasty at first and then really hoppy with alcohol notes present as well. Holding my nose to the glass for a bit longer, I notice there's some chocolate there too. The taste comes at you from 3 directions: There's a very nice roasted malt-chocolate bite that hits me first followed by a hop bitterness that stops this brew from ever getting too sweet, nice.. and for me, there's just a touch of the alcohol noted in the smell but dang, it makes me think, this is 9.1%abv? How dog gone smooth for a RIS but it's not due to lack of flavour; 3 directions? Yeah but...they all come together and make for a most enjoyable sipping experience! Bottom line: I need more of this stuff!! Thanks to jwc215 for this sample!
