no interest in drinking again - odd tasting with too much bitterness for a saison. wth is happening?? cards04 (2917) - Steinbach, Manitoba, CANADA - SEP 18, 2013
Very average saison. Aromas of honey and citrus. Maybe a touch of funk too. A touch of sour and bitter. Almost tastes like a pale lager. Meh. ThisWangsChung (836) - Leonardtown, Maryland, USA - SEP 17, 2013
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a mildly hazed straw color. The head is a fluffy two finger white shade that collapses pretty quickly, but leaves nice lacing on the glass.
S: There is a decent amount of complexity here for a 4.5% saison. I pick up coriander, orange peel, grassy hops, sage, and black pepper. However, there’s also a vegetal green pepper note that’s detracting - and even worse, it gets stronger as it warms up.
T: This is weird. It opens up fairly citrusy - which I like - but ends on both a watery and a vegetal note. Decent (if overdone) spicing in the middle gives way to a bell pepper finish that really rubs me the wrong way. The flavor profile sorely lacks balance and cohesion.
M: Very clean and dry, which I like. Very astringent too, which I don’t. This beer seemingly parches the palate excessively in the name of drinkability. Ah well, the latter is good, at least.
O: Swing...and a miss. This one was quite disappointing, considering Victory makes another saison that’s really damn good. And it’s another damning reminder that they really need to put Helios in 6-packs! Chudwick (3367) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - SEP 16, 2013
12oz bottle - pours hazy pale gold with small white head. Nose is lemon peel and floral. Sip adds straw. Sticky. Light mouthfeel for the style. Not too spicy or yeasty. Sessionable? Yes. Butters (4176) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 14, 2013
Clear light golden yellow with ample bright white head. Smells fantastic sagey lemon pepper. Flavor is not quite as good, but has a spicy bite and a green citrus hop character. Good moderately high carbonation. Smells better than it tastes though.

Bottle:   Hazy straw, some sediment floats about, thin sudsy white head, little lacing.   Spicy nose, a little floral, also seems to have a bit of urinal cake like aromatics.   Peppery start, bright orange peel, with bright mountain shrubiness.   Backside has a little bit of that artificial or fragrant soapiness that makes me think of what I whiff while standing at a urinal.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Wheaty finish, fake spiciness, lingering pepper.   Not great, not terribly bad either.   Overall a bit too artificial.   Needs more floral aspects that don’t appear to be like soap. Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a clear golden straw colored brew with an average sized but fast dissipating off-white head. Aroma of saison wheat, coriander, some clove, golden grain malt and a touch of Ivory soap. Taste is light to medium bodied, average carbonation with flavors of coriander, lemon zest, golden grain malt, and a hint of wintergreen. Finish has a sharp bitterness followed by some spice potpourri aftertastes. Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 5, 2013
Bottled. Poured clear, bright golden with a sticky white head. The aroma picked up bright spices (grains of paradise and a little coriander maybe?) ofer soft bready malts.. almost a little green garlic toward the back of the nose.. kinda weird. The flavor found tangy spices similar to the nose, plus grapefruit zest throughout.. light bready support again.. finished spicy and tangy. Light-bodied and over-spiced on the palate.. too much competing for attention.. fairly refreshing overall, but not that enjoyable. Leighton (22301) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 30, 2013
Bottle at home in Salisbury - picked up at Whole Foods in Portland, ME. Pours lightly hazed yellow-gold with a fine, creamy white head. The nose has lightly tangy lemon notes, some straw, drying out dough. Light sweet flavor, more lemony fruits, some lemon rind and hay bitterness, a bit of dry dough sweetness. Light bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Clean to finish, some doughy sugars, decent bitter lemon rind, straw. Very crisp, drinkable saison. mrhoppy (1196) - Santa Clara, California, USA - AUG 24, 2013
Huge spicy perfumey lemon basil nose. Gold color with nice lace. Light bready malt. More lemon and spices. Soft mouthfeel. Basil finish. Lemon rind bitterness. Tastes good but a little fake.
