It’s a lively jazz rhythm, a vigorous sway, a change of view or even a roll in the proverbial hay. Now it also means the welcome jolt of joy you’ll experience upon your first sip of this session saison. Bracing, but benign, this Belgian style ale enlivens any experience with a spicy, aromatic start, citrus snap and fresh finish. Swing into spring with taste!

Golden color. Opens sweet and finishes dry. Aggressively hopped which ends up hiding a bit of the Belgian yeast. Still, really cool beer right here. Very tasty.

Aroma of spice, yeast, citrus, and hay. Pours a slightly hazy light yellow with a mostly lasting white he’d and abundant lacing. The taste, chiefly, has a light bitterness to it. Flavors of coriander, citrus, with peppery notes and a hint of earthy barnyard in the dry finish. There is a bitter hoppy aftertaste. Medium-light body with crisp carbonation. Overall, a nice Saison. Should go well with any number of dishes.

Strong lemon, herbal aroma. Lively carbonation, floral. Very good spring beer. Session is a fair description. Could drink many. Liked it even more as it went on. Light hop finish.

Bottle. Slightly hazy, bright yellow pour. Aroma is citrus, coriander, band aid. Light bodied and spritzy carbonation. Mild Brett flavors dominate, citrus, leather, rubber, hay, tart lemon. Has a solid peppery finish with good bitterness. Packs a lot of flavor for 4.5%. Glad i got a sixer.

Hazy yellow with a big, puffy white head. Major carbonation. Aroma is orange and lemon. Belgian witbier funk/sweetness, with just a hint of that sour Saison stuff. Perfumey as hell. Also has an actual malt backbone. Grassy and yet with a touch of bready caramel malts. I’m really REALLY impressed with the scent. Taste is more of a Belgian golden ale, with more of a barley malt than a wheat malt. The taste is a little flatter than the aroma would suggest but still pleasant enough. Doesn’t have the "punch" to it that the aroma has. Very bubbly and fizzy on the palate; prickly. This is a very summery citrus flavor, light enough for a hot day but not bereft of flavors.

Scrapersnbeer (1532) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 9, 2013
Flowery bouquet of yeast grass and citrus. Bubbly yellow, good head retention. Dry pollenated bitter flavor, some citrus mixed in. Body is light and very dry. A hop oriented saison, what one expects for Victory’s take on a Belgian style.

Bottle into a fluted glass. Clear hay with a thick white head. Aroma is spicy, citrus, white bread. Taste is like a fizzy grapefruit cocktail. Lots of spice, citrus, pine, mint. A bit thin. Definitely easy drinking.

THOUGHTS: A little disappointed with this one. Just because something is low in alcohol, doesn’t mean its sessionable. It has to be easy to drink too; and this definitely isn’t easy to drink. It was interesting and complex but there was way too much going on flavor-wise for such a light body. TECHNICAL: Drank 3/29/2013. Bottle. Poured a sparkling, light, golden yellow with an average, slightly off-white head that kept a nice sheet and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light white bread and pale malt; light grassy hops; moderate musty, dusty and cobweb-like yeast; pepper and other spices; lemon; lime; and orange. The initial flavor was slightly sweet, moderately bitter and heavily acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, heavily bitter and nearly harshly acidic. There was lemon, orange, pale malt, crackers, white bread, earthy yeast, metallic hops, spices, slightly funky yeast, grassy hops, citrus pith and rind. The light to medium body was dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry and metallic finish.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2013 Bottle into pint glass. Slightly cloudy golden color with white head. Aroma of spices (coriander and pepper stick out), some citrus fruitiness, bread, with some floral notes. Taste brings out more of the spices, citrus and pepper notes with a body that’s fairly yeasty and malty. Slight earthy hop note at the end. Medium body, average carbonation, complex, smooth and easy to drink. Dry and somewhat peppery finish. Pretty good, I’m pairing this with my Italian dinner coming up.
