Not overly hoppy so it makes a good light summer drinking beer that won't fill you up on a hot summer day. Definitely can taste the noble hops but very subtle.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2005 (previous rating in this slot was mistakenly for the Dortmunder) New Rating 6/11/2005) What a perfectly wonderful beer. I could drink gallons of this stuff, especially in hot weather. Clear straw with lively columns of bibbles that cascade to the surface forming a nice lastig white head. The aroma just screams lager, unsalted saltines with a wisp of noble hops. The flavor is even more crackery. Extremely well-balanced and refeshing. Light crisp body, pure malt exhuberance washing down to my gullet. It is a shame that more folks can not appreciate this wonderful beer, or even this style for that matter! This was a really refreshing beer. The aroma was a little bready and the taste was clean and smooth. Worth a try and a great American example of the style. MilkmanDan (1942) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - APR 18, 2005
Bright gold, thin head. Nose lightly grassy, some floral character. Nice taste here, crisp and a bit citric, good hoppy bite, finishes with a nice balance of sweet malts. Good stuff. THLEIGHTY (19) - - APR 13, 2013
Very drinkable and refreshing with a little bit of hop taste. Lite crisp after taste

Light colored, one of the palest beers I've ever had. Translucent, moderate white head. Aroma is a wonderful mix of malt and grassy hops. Flavor is malty sweet with just the right amount of tartness from the hops. Finish is dry and grassy too! This is an enjoyable beer! envane (586) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 16, 2004
Wonderful bready aroma. Taste is very clean, sweet malt. I think it needs slightly more hops though. But this is still a very smooth, enjoyable beer. Much thanks to Springlicker for this one. Dickinsonbeer (5073) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - SEP 4, 2004
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2010 Not quite as good as burgerbrau but close. Extremely light yellow with a minimal head- good lace though. Aroma is malty with great balance of noble hops. Pretty good flavor for such a light looking lager. Very malty and smooth. Easy to drink- everyone can like this beer- even swill drinkers. I also liked the helles better than the dortmunder- seemed a little smoother overall. FlacoAlto (4220) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - DEC 5, 2004

A spicy hop aroma emenates from my glass as I pour this beer. The beer is a brilliant straw gold color, and is topped by a frothy, just barely off-white head. The aroma is nicely full with continental spicy hop notes, I get notes of herbs, grass, and a hint of lemon. The beer is quite light on the palate, and has a pleasing malt sweetness. There is a nice bitterness in the finish, which is a nice balance. There is a decent amount of hop flavor here as well. This beer is actually defined by the hoppiness, though certainly not in the way that an IPA is defined by hoppiness.
This is just an incredibly tasty example of a Helles. Despite it being past its bottle date this beer tasted incredibly fresh and vibrant to me, I can’t even imagine a fresh one being better.
