Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels. “Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.” Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

Bottle, caged and corked. Deep golden color, bordering on orange-amber. Thin, creamy head. The aroma gives away a definite barrel character ... woody and farm-ish. The drink is very heavy-feeling, with a thick mouthfeel, a big-time buttery, Chardonnay layer ... like super rich icing on a cupcake. (#5574, 7/8/2014)

750 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden with white head. Aroma at first very buttery reminding of bearnaise sauce. Later s malty and alcoholic aroma takes over with some spice and lighter butter. Taste is similar, buttery, malty, some spice and alcohol

On tap at Mekong, Richmond. Pours a dark golden yellow with tinge of copper on glass. Frothy head fades quickly to lacing and wispy head. Aroma is soapy upfront, white wine, yeast spicy sweetness. Flavor is tripel, oak, grapes and overall sweet. Best in small quantities.

Bottle from systembolaget. The nose has a sweet scent, with hints of caramel, pumpkins, bananas and sugar. It pours a darker golden colour with a small white head. The taste is equally sweet and has pumpkin and caramel as main indicators. The body is full and the taste lasts in a nice way. Overall a really good beer.

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Clear deep golden, medium white head. Malty aroma with strong notes of vanilla oak. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi dry, low to medium bitterness. A bit cloying.

Bottle via GS. Light orange in color... poured into a snifter, decent head. Nose of sweet malts, apples, light musky grapes and some chardonnay. Taste is not as sweet as the normal monkey, light grape/chardonnay taste. Followed a light malt body and musky grapes and apples/fruit. Not a bad little brewski. Medium body, pretty easy to drink for a 9 percenter. Well done to the brewers.

Looks pretty much like Golden Monkey, light golden color with fluffy white head. Big aromas of white fruits, big chardonnay characteristics in both the aroma and taste. It goes down easy for the ABV. i like me some Golden Monkey, but this is even better.

750ml bottle. Pours golden yellow with a white head. Grapes, oak, Chardonnay, butter. The finish tasted off. I did not like this at all. Drain pour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
