As one would expect from Victory, this beer was pretty bitter for a porter. Quite malty as well, but that was nice because the malt imparted a tasty roastiness. This beer sits more in stout territory. apoptosis (1317) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 4, 2003
Probably because it was on draught, it looked more like a stout than a porter. Smells likes ash, tastes roasted and ash-like. Little notes of cocoa. Smooth and full-flavored body. Dry, and pleasantly not too heavy. notalush (5878) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 3, 2003
A pretty good porter - nothing really sets it apart from the greats, but it holds its own somewhat with them (fullers, anchor, etc.) - mild chocolate and coffee presence - a little thin, but quite enjoyable. Oakes (17684) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 1, 2003
Wood, toast, raisins and a hint of coffee. Dark brown with chestnut. Thinnish body - dry in the finish also slightly sour. One of those old-time entires, a throwback of sorts. daboskabouter (1470) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 1, 2003
Dark brown color, light tan head. Nose is roasty with a nice choclatey sweetness and that distracting plastickey hint, i hate that. Hints of fruit as well. Body is roasty, spritzy and quite bitter. Quite thin and definitely leaving something to be desired. I'm going to take this time to rant as well. Going to the brewpub ruined this brewery for me. I had a couple of beers there that I had had in bottle form as well and they were completely different brews, and not in a good way. I loved this brewery, stick with the bottled brews if you can.

Very dark pour with a deep mohogany hue. Medium-sized khaki head. Creamy. Mostly, but not fully diminishing. Decent lacing.
The aroma is floral with notes of chocolate, ginger and a pungent, citrusy note.
Up front, the flavor holds bursts of chocolate and toasted nuts. Tangy and then lightly bitter on the backside. Very well-balanced.
Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Long, crisp, clean finish. Notes of chocolate, straw and ginger throughout the finish.
Very nice brew! boto (2211) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - APR 22, 2003
Draught @ Victory. I was at first taken aback by the color: It wasn't as dark as you would expect: you could actually see through it. The taste certainly wasn't lighter at all: a rich roastiness and full flavor that you would expect from a good porter. Braudog (6716) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - APR 7, 2003
Black with a white head. Malty aroma. Lightly smooth with an understated bitter malt flavor. Humbly satisfying. ConiseurofBeer (242) - Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 4, 2003
A good porter. Certainly not the traditional Pennsylvania porter. Very heavy coffee flavors. LiebeBier (808) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - APR 4, 2003
Draft at Victory - Chocolate Aroma. Great looking with nice tan head. Sweet malt flavor that has it's own unique style. Most porters I've had seem like watered down stout. Not true with this one. This is the best porter I've ever had.
