Brown and mostly clear, almost an auburn color, very nice lasting head and good lace.
Smell is subdued but consists mostly of citrus and hops, with a touch of dark malts and chocolate.
Flavor is all hops with accents of other stuff, including dark roasted malts, heavier grades of caramel malts (giving it a slight dark fruitiness), and citrus rinds.
Carbonation is fairly low despite the big creamy head. It’s a pretty strong tasting and feeling beer, not something I’d drink quickly, more of a moderate sipper.
Very tasty. A bit unusual for a black ale/black IPA but worth trying for sure. drewish9882 (24) - Lake Mary, Florida, USA - MAR 31, 2013
An above average ipa with a good aftertaste. This is a beer that grows on you. This is not one of my favs, but it’s in my mid range brews. Thx Victory! RespertFTW (521) - Michigan, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Bottle to snifter. Nice color and decent head after pour. Very bitter and not a whole lot else. Not a whole lot of citrus in taste or aroma. trujahwarrior (510) - Monroe, Washington, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Pours a mahogany color with a thick tan head that leaves great lacing. Smells of pine, grapefruit, chocolate and roasted malt. Tastes of all the same things with a dark fruit flavor mixed in. Mouthfeel is heavy and chewy light carbonation and a dry finish. I really like the east coast style ipa mixed with roasted malts, its very well balanced yet strong at the same time. grundsow (130) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 15, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2014 What a great beer! Rich, smooth malts contrasted by the zing of hops. Tons of flavor but too much alcohol. Perfection in flavor and balance. Eek! Did I say balance?

The aroma has coffee, nuts, fruit, and pine. The flavor is full and a bit rich, with floral hops and some decent sweetness that is not over powering. I like the coffee notes in this beer that are not overdone like many others. This is a very good brew overall. phikus01 (112) - New York, USA - MAR 9, 2013
I’m not usually a fan of black IPA but this is delicious. Roasty chocolate currant flavor in the malts balanced well with a heaping of piney citrus hops. A little warmth from the alcohol. S_Side_Smitty (775) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Pours dark brown and opaque with a small tan head. Aroma is an interesting blend of pine, rosted malts & chocolate. Taste is.....wow! Up front you get an exotic combination of resinous pine, chicory and roasted malts. The hop bitterness really kicks in on the mid palate. The finish is smooth creamy chocolatey malts. Interesting ride for the palate, no doubt! DeliveryDriver (170) - Illinois, USA - MAR 5, 2013
Pours a dark reddish brown with a half finger of off white head. Aromas of resin and floral notes, and a tad bit of roasty malts. Those wet hops are the story, big bitterness with hardly anything else going on. Thin and easy going down. I wish the malts had more of an impact. Pours a very turbid cherry brown color with a nice creamy, light tan head with a LOT of staying power. Aroma has a sweet nose overall with orange citrus, cherry, pineapple, caramel malt and just a touch of toasted malt. Flavor is very sweet as a whole but not anywhere near cloying. I get a huge cherry juice presence in this brew followed by strong toasted malt presence, mild caramel sweetness, light orange and fruity notes at the end. Body is modest with some slight sticky feeling too it and a good deal of carbonation. Overall a very tasty brew. I wouldn’t classify this as a black IPA as it fails to have the sharp roasted presence typical for IPAs. I think it falls more into the IIPA style but a very nice brew overall.
