The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. 355 mL. This is awesome! Pours a dark, clear amber with a thin beige cap that has okay retentions and leaves some spotty lacing. Huge piney hop aroma with rye toast, black pepper, toffee, caramel, burnt sugar. Taste is a lot like Arrogant Bastard- huge piney and resiny hops but there is a nice heavy rye malt backing that is spicy and a bit alcoholic. Chewy, syrupy mouthfeel. This is like having a dark DIPA. Really awesome. Gotta drink it fresh though.

Pours a dark mahogany with a big fluffy head. Aromas are of pine and citrus with a sugary aspect as well. Taste is very much the same but is not over powering and stays just long enough. Its not as big as most strong ales and makes it good for a 6 pack format. Another great beer from Victory!

Very resinous hop character in the aroma. Dark, rich malts backed up with a huge hops. Nice, velvety mouthfeel.

A nice and delicious American strong. Aroma was good.Strong roasted caramel malt with a hint of earthy hops. Pour was beautiful. Deep dark red when held up to the light but from the side looks like a dark brown with a huge puffy 3 finger tan head. One of the most beautiful colors in a beer I’ve seen. Taste was good but a little predictable. Tastes like a maltier Arrogant Bastard. Huge malt profile with a bitter hoppy aftertaste. The roasted malt dominates and gives almost a chewy character. Nice carbonation.

On tap @ Victory. Clear amber/brown with a long lasting light tan head. PacNW hop aroma of pine, resin and citrus fruit. Bitter with a mild sweetness and a long bitter finish. Medium to full body with mild carbonation and a syrupy mouth feel. Very nice intense flavors of caramel and hops in this one.

On draft, Dark copper to light brown with a tan head and some decent lacing. Floral notes on nose with an interesting malt to caramel touch. Mouthfeel is medium bodied while starting on the hoppy side and finishing on the sweater side with front tongue feel.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Rich copper pour with a creamy tan head. Aroma is piney and very hoppy with a strong amount of citrus. Flavor is a lot hoppier than I thought it would be, but quite well balanced with some smooth caramel malts. Didn’t realize it was that high in alcohol either.

On tap at the Great Lakes Brewfest 2009. Fire Red with a medium tan head. Aroma of sticky resinous hops, pine, citrus and toasted malt. Taste of piney resinous hops with citrus, caramel and roasted bready malt. Pretty solid libation with a nice bitter finish that lurks on a bit.

On tap @ Mad Mex Cranberry. Pours a clear dark amber with an off white head that laces the glass nicely. Hops are totally overwhelming on the nose, very sharp floral notes. As expected, hops shine in the body; not a bright citrus hop character, more sappy and thick. Malts try to hold up, but are just dominated by conical goodness. Not well rounded, but who cares?

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2010 Had this at Mad Mex. truly double IPA, darker copper, no head, and earthy, not quite so floral but plenty of hops. Big beer for hop heads. I didn’t get much malt but it was buried in there somewhere Also a case of bottles and great aromatic hops 2010 Not sure why it was renamed. It does seem a bit darker, but the hops are still huge
