COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

imdownthepub (14553) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2013
Bottle conditioned, 355ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Dark red to chestnut with off white head. Quite caramelised early on, toffee, sweetish, this leads to a pine like hop note, quite grassy perhaps. Heady alcohol note, late fruitiness. A little mixed up.

joebudzjoe (676) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 1, 2013
A bittersweet nose predominately of aggressive hops. Pours black with a tan head that quickly fizzles away and leaves no lacing. Light-to-medium bodied, this brew has obvious grassy and pine flavor with notes of oak, oats, cocoa, a hint of black licorice and a milk chocolate aftertaste. Not as silky smooth as most black IPAs that I like, but this is pretty darn good.

Deep amber in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is of grass, pine, citrus. Taste is the same.

Miked1687 (608) - Buffalo, New York, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Poured from a bottle into my teku. Super dark- almost ruby red. Off white head that laces a bit, but overall is not too substantial. Piney hops dominate the nose, dark roast malts providing some backbone. Awesome bitter hops are the main event, and the hop bitterness turns into malt coffee bitterness, really nice. I like this one!

Chudwick (3207) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Draft at CWBF - pours dark amber with tan head. Nose is dirty socks and cheap incense. Flavor is grapefruit. Quite bitter with a long bitter aftertaste.

12 oz draft. Pours a nice dark amber with modest head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts and hops. Some almost earth smells as well. Flavor of malts, hops, pine and caramel. Nice bitter finish. Very pleasant.

VALIS (229) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 15, 2013
Very pretty dark red with lots of off-white bubbles. Dominant caramel on the nose with a little barbecue spice and plenty of malt. Nice balance between smooth and bitter. I thought I didn’t like Black IPAs but this changed my mind.

This is one of the few beers not a milk stout or Scottish Ale that I would call silky smooth. It doesn’t kill you with either hops or malt, but it is very pleasant on both. If you like over the top hops, don’t bother, but on a cold winter night this is a wonderful IPA.

Capa (3298) - Kitsap, Washington, USA - FEB 4, 2013
Deep brown with a tan head. Aroma is citrus and pine over a sweet malty background. Medium body. Flavor has a mix of dry, rustic malts and piney, citrus hops. A bit maltier and sweeter than many BIPAs I’ve had. Still, not a huge fan of the style. Decent brew.

3.9
Lightrider (344) - Bristol, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 2, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 4, 2013 Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a ruby black with a thick head. Aroma is hops on hops with a warm malt under tone. Taste is a ipa with a fine malt ale under merge. Finish is the same first bitter then warm. A very good ipa ale.
