On tap at Mcmenamin’s. Dark brown slight reddish hue when held to the light. Thin tan head. Fizzy aroma. Some citrus notes. Flavor is very dry - some roasted malt flavors and bitterness. Dry, bitter astringent finish. Not entirely pleasant. LilBeerDoctor (3958) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 10, 2009
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2013 On tap at Tria. Pours dark brown with a small thick tan head. Aroma of citrusy hops. Flavor of roasted malt with a slight citrusy finish. Astringent and a harsh palate. Just a little too harsh and bitter for me.

Update 2/1/13: On tap. Pours a clear brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of citrusy hops, grassy hops. Flavor is super hoppy, with some dark roasted malts, but plenty of grassy and garlicky hops and a touch of roasted nuts. Great black ipa, very enjoyable the 2nd time around.
Cask at David Copperfields. Creamy brown beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is quite hoppy and herbal. Spicy with a soft cocoa base and a bit of orange peel. Very bright and hop-laden. Spicy and herbal with a lot of pithy resinous bitterness and a kiss of smokiness as well. Warming intensifies the zesty hoppiness and a spiciness. Sticky resinous finish. A hit of cocoa and light caramel gives the malts a bit of intrigue. Pretty interesting. Arayaga2 (2199) - portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 31, 2008
Cola brown / black with ruby undertones and a tall taupe head. Powerful resinous citrus aroma with a second note of roast. Taste is similar with intense grapefruity presence that translates directly into hoppy mouthfeel. Again, the roast plays second note with chocolate backed by the pithy bitterness of the hops. $5/13oz TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 20, 2008
On tap at Capones. Dark cola brown with a smooth tan head. Nose is orange and caramel with hints of chocolate and cat pee. Medium body with crisp carb to soften the resin. Taste is candied orange peel, grapefruit, caramel and melon. Juicy and sticky with lemon zest in the finish. Delicious.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2008 Pours a very deep mohagany/brown color body with a super sticky off white head. The aroma is very roasty with some really nice hop notes and some earthy tobacco. The flavor is a complex blend of coffee, walnuts, grapefruit, pine needles, mild cigar, and subtle oranges. Very drinkable. A very nice surprise. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 17, 2008
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2008 Draught at Victory: Aroma of hops, grapefruit, pine, slight caramel malt, light toasting, slight resin, slight chocolate, and citrus. Poured brown/ruby in color with a medium-sized, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Not sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is heavily bitter. Tastes of hops, light chocolate, malts, pine, spruce, citrus, slight tobacco, light resin, citrus, and a hint of salt. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Hoppy, bitter, light resin finish. jeff789 (1408) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 16, 2008
On tap at the brewpub... Pours dark brown w a small head... Huge hop aroma... Huge hop taste with a bit of a roasty/burn malt backing, quite balanced, the flavors play very nicely... I have a hard time saying this classifies as an IPA, you could argue the nuances of that for days... Imperial Brown Ale or Imperial Amber Ale just isnt as sexy these days... hopdog (12673) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 16, 2008
Pint on tap at Capones.
Poured a darker brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of pine, earhty, roasty, floral, toasted malts, and some citrus. Tastes of pine, roasted malts, earthy, citrus, and lighter caramel. Alcohol content well hidden. Lacing left on the glass. More on the hoppy side vs. a balanced IIPA. If I had to choose, I would list this under and IPA, although if a Black IPA were a style, this would fit that. egajdzis (6613) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 14, 2008
UPDATED: DEC 23, 2008 Poured a deep brown color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, floral hops, brown sugar, citrus fruits, toast, and roasted malts. Taste of citrus fruits, pine, resiny tobacco, molasses, caramel malts, toast, and grapefruit, with light alcohol as well.
