The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the twilight for the bright and brassy hops!

Oily, hoppy, sweet brown mess of a brew. I liked it. It is kind of a brown imperial IPA; complex, velvety, and sweet. Nice palate. Its super-hopped, brown in color, and retains a good bit of sweetness.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown with a nice off-white head. Aroma & taste are much the same: big malts & hops: roasted malts, fruity, citrus, some pine. Medium body with a solid bite. Very good depth and very well balanced. I have not had that many Black IPAs but this one IMHO was excellent.

Pours dark reddish brown with a big creamy off-white head. Aroma is a wonderful bouquet of citrus, pine, and resin with a few roasted notes. This beer isnt really black, but the taste certainly says Black IPA. A very nice marriage of dark roasted malts and high alpha hops with strong bitterness. This is good stuff.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2010 Dark reddish-tinged brown with a small khaki head that leaves a little lacing on the glass. Juicy hop aroma, more grass and citrus than pine. Nice toasted malt to go with it. Taste is dark roasted malt punctuated by a strong hop punch. The sweetness of the malts is definitely noticeable. Tons and tons of citrus hop flavor. Grapefruit and orange swim in a sea of toasty malt flavor. Nicely balanced. Smooth, medium body. Great showing from one of my new favorite styles.

6 pack from North End Market. Poured into shaker. Pours a clear orange/amber with a deceptively aggressive tan head that holds and laces nicely to the finish. Pretty uncomplex with alcohol upfront in both aroma and flavor. Some background notes of light malts and a bit of dry finish with bitter hop aftertaste. A great 6 pack for sure.

On tap at Naked Citys Victory Night for SBW. Pours dark red with a decent off-white head. Strong barleywine-like hoppy strawberry caramel aroma and taste. Smooth with a malty pine finish.

Pours transparent brown with a hint of red. Aroma is a combo of citrus and floral hop notes. The flavor has a nice malt punch followed by a slightly bitter hop finish. Good mouthfeel. Solid.

FudgeSociety2 (311) - Florida, USA - DEC 23, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 25, 2010 Pours a dark red; citric aroma. This is essentially a very hoppy barley wine, or a double ipa with big malt front. Hops dont feel fresh here, but Im getting a more floral variety of the hop. Barley wine style caramel malt balance with a double ipa aggressive hop finish. The hops and malt intermingle to get an almost watermelon jello taste at times. Orange rind flavor comes out as it warms, 8.7% is not detectable. No real roast, or stout characters. Quite good, strong beer.
