COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The tenacious grip of big, juicy hop aroma and character slides smoothly into rich, dark malts. This heavyweight battle between fresh, Yakima Valley hops and dark, roasted malts is resolved harmoniously as the flavors merge to deliver complex satisfaction with a warming edge. Enjoy the ‘twilight’ for the bright and brassy hops!

On tap at Tony’s Place in Ivyland. Color is a deep rich red / brown. Head is not strong. Smells of hops hit your nose. Maybe Crystal hops? I would say this beer is more hop heavy than malt. Alcohol is well hidden under hop kick.

Pours a brownish red with a small tan head. The nose is strong with piney hops but there is a hint of sweetness that lingers in the background. Initially the hops really overpower anything the malts have to offer. Strong pine flavor and a big bitter punch, especially in the middle palate. The balance with the malts really shines on the finish, everything comes together in an incredibly "smooth" way. As the beer warms the malt characteristics start to show themselves, nice caramel notes and a hint of chocolate, and the beer really becomes more complex.

Draught at the Pizza Plant. Dark brown with a firm white head, with a very hoppy flavor...not as hoppy as an IPA, but hoppier than a pale ale. Very smooth, nice and potent. Very nice beer.

Brown pour. Citrusy aroma. This ale has a ton of fruity, hoppy goodness. I’m not such a good judge of IIPA vs. strong ale. Is there a clear difference? I would drink this any day.

On tap at Draught House in Austin. Medium to dark brown with small head. Nice american hop aroma with a hint of roast. The flavor is pretty intense with bittering hops, flavor hops, and roasted malt. It’s like an imperial brown ale with lots of American hops. It has a medium to heavy body but is balanced enough to be drinkable. Very tasty beer if you get a chance to try it.

A nice strong ale with a hoppy nose and bits of coffee, chocolate, and lemon in the flavor. The body is lighter than that description might suggest, and the bitter dipa-style finish makes this a good pair for grilled meat (even if my description makes it sound like a dessert beer). 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Dark caramel color with thick head. Unique malty hop taste, I can’t think of a comparable brew. Not as roasted as other Black IPAs.

drougkolya (276) - Otterburn Park, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 12, 2011
Bière IPA de couleur brune de 8.7% d’alcool, ressemble à un peu à une scotish de par le goût du malt un peu sucré, très houblonné, plusieurs explosion de saveur dans une gorgé!!!

bigben873 (262) - Virginia, USA - MAR 18, 2011
March Madness 2011
Aroma - almost no noticeable aroma
Appearance - Dark amber, clear, moderate head
Taste - Is this a Black IPA or a Black Pale Ale? Taste is indecisive
Palate - mediume body, good carbonation
Overall - Not a beer I would (personally) drink regularly but pretty tasty with a unique flavor.
