Draught in a pint glass during a connection at Philadelphia Int. Airport. Caramel and roasty malt aroma. Thin, light caramel head that sticks around while you drink it, decent lace, dark blood red/caramel color. Flavor is what you expect from a winter seasonal American strong ale- bitter hops dominating the sweet without completely snuffing them out, light spice (subtle, but i wanted more), and a very satisfying malt aftertaste. Pours a deep rich amber color with a tan head. Aroma is toast, biscuit, some roast, grassy, earthy, and some citrus. Flavor is caramel, biscuit, roast, and a bitter slightly astringent citrus finish. AR (1002) - Georgia, USA - MAR 27, 2010

On tap. Oh and I had heard such good things... Pours a dark reddish black brown color with a large foamy light brown head. Notes of paint thinner, dark brown sugar, and very faded hops. This beer is falling apart at the seams. It is completely unbalanced. It’s like a crazy chick after 2 xanax and 4 glasses of red wine. Unfortunate. Deep red with a little head. Bready malts with fat, herbal hops. Very fresh and vegetal on the nose. In the mouth it has molasses sugar with some dusty hoppiness and a lingering bitterness.

4.0 A: Dark brown color. Two and a half fingers of pillowy, but creamy head that retains well and leaves minimal lacing.
4.0 S: Lots of resiny, piney hops with some citrus as well. Darker crystal malts and a roastiness to it. Can’t smell that much more right now because I’m somewhat ill.
3.5 T: Bitter backbone with a healthy mix of hops and roasted flavors. Citrus and piney hop flavor. Malts consist of complex caramel as well as a bitter roastiness. Not bad, but doesn’t impress.
4.0 M: Medium body. Good carbonation. Could be a bit creamier. Otherwise fine.
3.5 D: The meshing of dark flavors with IPA hoppiness is good, but not necessarily better than one or the other.

Roasted malt with sweetness on the aroma. Hops are piney but subdued. Pours a deep mahogeny with thick pillowy taupe head. Caramel and chocolate start; bitterness arrives late but no real hop flavor to be found. Thick body that finishes quickly. Roasted malt and nuttiness make this more like a bitter imperial brown. Appearance: Pours clear dark brown with a medium sized off-white head and some lacing
Aroma: Toasted malts, sweet caramel and earthy hops
Taste: Toasted malts, caramel and some pine bitterness in the finish
A nice beer, not very roasty or hoppy though.
