humlelala (1348) - DENMARK - AUG 24, 2011
(Sample at Papss) Pours a clear dark brown with little, off-white head. Aroma is very faint and almost undetectable - woody? Thin-bodied, watery texture, soft carbonation and a short, flat finish. Taste is cardboard or not much of anything - neither sweet nor bitter - nor sour for that matter. I guess its not my kind of beer style.

Skinnyviking (9142) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 17, 2011
Swingtop bottle. Medium high creamy and lasting off-white head. Very dark red brown body. Caramel cofffe roasted barley malt aroma with a touch of liquorice. Sugary sweet coffee roasted malt caramel flavor with little a bit of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long bittersweet aftertaste. Well balanced, alcohol level seems just right. Delicious.

prawlie (1533) - ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2011
500 mL bottle at home, swapped with Welshwizard645, poured into a pint glass, in as close to a German stab into the glass of beer pouring style as I could manage. Not quite black and opaque, but very dark with an at first lively head - due to not being handled very well. Smells dark, roasted and rich, very good. Tastes nice, like a good English mild. Tastes of nuts, roast, a hint of coffee and generally pleasant. Like a good English mild it is flavoursome and in part 2D. However its a fine beer, and clearly not as wide reknown as it should be. Rather good.

pivnizub (10310) - Bochum, Porř, GERMANY - APR 10, 2011
Bgelverschluflasche von Stefan: Very deep amber coloured, bigger beaten-egg-white-like tanned head; solid toasty caramelly nose with fruity and mainly chocolatey aromas; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, soft; lingering chocolatey-toasty finish, becomes drier towards the end. Chapeau! An unexpected gem from the GDR.....

Quack-Duck (9356) - Down South, GERMANY - APR 10, 2011
bottle from the brewery (mail-order). Deep brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate. Full-bodied, malty, lots of caramel and chocolate. Not as dry and cardboardy as many East German Schwarzbiers, this one is well balanced and full of good flavours. A delicious example of the style!

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 16/20
MoritzF (9564) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAR 21, 2011
(swing top bottle, with thanks to Quack-Duck) Deep brown, almost black colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Slightly sugary sweet and roasted malty aroma with distinctive notes of dark and milk-chocolate, accompanied by a herbal and ethereally touch. Balanced roasty bitter and sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a pleasantly calm carbonation. Roasty malty taste with notes of chocolate, liquorice and herbal accents; sweet and roasty bitter, quite balanced and lasting finish. A pleasure; like a bottom-fermented Sweet Stout. 16.III.11
