Maria (10213) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAY 11, 2008
From tap at Vielanker Brauhaus. Its very dark brown with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of coffee and roasted malt - nice. The flavour has notes of coffee, roasted malt, a slightly dry citrussy bitterness, and the body is full and nice. Its very porter like and doesnt have the very pronounced sweetness that many German Schwartzbiers have. Its one of the really good ones!

Bottle. Nearly black body, small off-white creamy head, mostly diminishing. Light smell of malt and cola, roasted coffee shines through. Medium bitter start, gets even more bitter at the end, lightly sour. Medium body, oily but watery texture, average carbonation, bitter and surprisingly long finish. Good one

Bottle, 5.5%. Sweetish and roasted aroma. The flavour is mildly roasted with a little sweetness. Malty dark bread notes. Late bitterness, good and cleansing. 7 3 7 3 17

London Gathering Nov 05: Clear brown with a beige head. Simple choc malts flavours, with a suprising tart edge. Drinkable, but I suspect this bottle was tainted.

Bottle at London gathering, November 2005. Thanks to Jacob Lovenlund for thisone and sorry weve blitzed the score of a previously highly rated beer. Im sure it would be good fresh at the brewpub, but there was definitely something dubious about this bottle, even if I didnt find it quite as hideous as other dis. Dark reddish brown colour. Malty and soft. Definitely sour. Didnt pick up any rotting meat in the aroma, but I was suffering from a cold.
