Bügelverschlußflasche von Stefan: Very deep amber coloured, bigger beaten-egg-white-like tanned head; solid toasty caramelly nose with fruity and mainly chocolatey aromas; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, soft; lingering chocolatey-toasty finish, becomes drier towards the end. Chapeau! An unexpected gem from the GDR..... olio (10471) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 4, 2012

Pours deep dark red color with small head. Aroma of dark berries, mild caramel malts, some toffee, some vanilla notes and grass. Flavor of malts, caramel, fruity notes, some honey hints. Quite nice.
From tap at Vielanker Brauhaus. It’s very dark brown with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of coffee and roasted malt - nice. The flavour has notes of coffee, roasted malt, a slightly dry citrussy bitterness, and the body is full and nice. It’s very porter like and doesn’t have the very pronounced sweetness that many German Schwartzbiers have. It’s one of the really good ones! MoritzF (10068) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAR 21, 2011
(swing top bottle, with thanks to Quack-Duck) Deep brown, almost black colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Slightly sugary sweet and roasted malty aroma with distinctive notes of dark and milk-chocolate, accompanied by a herbal and ethereally touch. Balanced roasty bitter and sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a pleasantly calm carbonation. Roasty malty taste with notes of chocolate, liquorice and herbal accents; sweet and roasty bitter, quite balanced and lasting finish. A pleasure; like a bottom-fermented Sweet Stout. 16.III.11 Skinnyviking (9674) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 17, 2011
Swingtop bottle. Medium high creamy and lasting off-white head. Very dark red brown body. Caramel cofffe roasted barley malt aroma with a touch of liquorice. Sugary sweet coffee roasted malt caramel flavor with little a bit of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long bittersweet aftertaste. Well balanced, alcohol level seems just right. Delicious. bottle from the brewery (mail-order). Deep brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate. Full-bodied, malty, lots of caramel and chocolate. Not as dry and cardboardy as many East German Schwarzbiers, this one is well balanced and full of good flavours. A delicious example of the style! maeib (8751) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - NOV 14, 2005
Bottled at the Chris_O Beer, Cheese and Curry powwow. Listen if a beer’s crap and not seriously over its Best Before Date then it shouldn’t have a default score. This was not worthy of 2.7 so shouldn’t get it. Anyway rant over!!! This black beer had a musty stale farty offish prune aroma. The taste is sour fruit. Tastes off and nasty. Ugh.
