On tap at Vintage Brewing. Dark murky brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of smoked malts, banana, rye, yeast and mild spices. My problem with this style is that the smoke always overtakes everything underneath but this one allowed the aromas and flavors to come through. On tap at Sweet Mullets. Hazy red-brown in color. Nose of sweet wheat malt, light smoke, fruit/light banana esters. Flavor is wheat malt, acidic pear/apple, and salty smoke. On draft st the brewpub. Aroma of cinnamon applesauce, tastes a bit of the same. Solid, but I won’t tosh to have again.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours hazy brown apple cider with a ring of white head. Light sweet smoke on the nose mingling with a smooth wheat. Taste is same, like a real sweet, boozy hefe with a mellow smokiness. Pretty highly carbonated, but not biting. Draft at Vintage. Unfiltered burgundy-brown, thin oily head. The firkin, however, has a steady creamy head. Sweet licorice and brown sugar aroma. Sweet, a little brutal on the alcohol. Doesn’t really nail the style, too acidic and alcohol laced. Lacks the bready, yeasty thickness. Pours cloudy brown with a thin head. Aroma starts with the classic banana with sweet malts. Tastes sweet, good Hefe banana and a hint of smoke. Medium body, slight dry finish. On tap at Vintage. Poured deeper reddish-amber with a creamy whitish head. The aroma picked up deeper caramel and chocolate sweetness upfront with bananas, biscuits, and raw wheat behind.. light peaty accents.. loved it! The flavor found tangy raisins and darker fruit plus a hit of alcohol over chocolate and biscuity sweetness.. a little greener alcohol and some smoked malt on the back.. long, memorable finish. Creamy, rolling carbonation on the palate.. medium-bodied.. a little sharp at times, but very good overall.
