On Tap at Big Barrel Tararrel 2013 at Vintage Brewpub. Murky ambercot with a thin white topper. Aroma is sour and grainy with citrus, caramel, grapefruit and light oak. This was my last sample before calling it a night. Well balanced with that funky brett touch it may have been the best local option of the weekend. I hope Vintage keeps experimenting with the sour / funk program on the side.
Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy bronze base retains wisps of white head. Peppery aspects dominate a dry champagne like nose. Yeasty sourdough bread tickles the nose along with the smell of hoppy pretzel sticks.
Flavor / Palate - The brett is strong with this one. From the first sip it is evident how dry it has become. A blast of caramelly hops carries the solid presence through to a lemony finish. Traces of apple chips soaked in lemon juice rise up from time to time. This is a great way to do a brett beer without gong overboard.
On tap at 2013 GTMW, super pumped to try this one as I missed in at the special barrel release a few months back, pours an orange with an off white head and a little bit of lacing, the aroma still has a good amount of ipa in it with good citrus and hops, but there’s a little bit of funk there too, the flavor is pretty crazy, funky and sour but citrus and fruit mixed in as well, really haven’t had anything like this before, cool stuff.

Draft pour on tap at GTMW 2013 (Madison, WI). Pours a well hazed orange amber hue, striking glow in this light with a loose frothy offwhite head. Dies to a small ring, laces small. Aromas present a nice melange of citrus, pineapple, and florals. Gentle funk grows, that pineapple presence showing some barnyard, straw, dry cracked grain. Initial is dry, firm bretty funk hits. Some bigger fruit presence into the middle, pineapple and bready malts mix, some cobwebs, straw, grass. Gentle barnyard grows firmly, finishing up with gentle liveliness, firm dryness and funk. A juicy pineapple feel throughout is a bit tart, gentle citrus, dry florals. Pretty good. Not the prettiest pour but the beer is nice. Not just dry and funky, but a good pineapple/fruity presence. Draft at the brewery. Hazy orange pour with slight white head and a little bit of white lacing. Slightly fruity nose. Very nice flavor - big bret profile with a strong hop finish. On tap at the Vintage Big Barrel Tarrarel - Pours hazy light amber with a thin white head. Nose is pineapple, light herbal hoppiness, and a fairly dry malt base. Same sweet taste, tons of pineapple and nice hopping. Oaky finish. Slick and full-bodied in the mouth, with nice carbonation. Beautiful--the star of the show!
