Tap at Big Barrel Tararrel 2014. Unfiltered amber-brown body. Oily thin head. Big sour ginger notes. Overbearing flavor overload. This beer is kind of insane. Sour pineapple ginger massiveness. Spice bomb sour bomb combined. Dogbrick (13013) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 21, 2014
Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a color unlike any Wit I have ever seen, which I assume is due to the barrel aging. Dark brownish-purple color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of red wine, oak and spice. Medium to full body with flavors of vinous oak, ginger and wheat. The finish is red wine and sweet spice. Odd beer, but decent overall. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 8, 2014
3oz on tap at the brewpub. Clear red orange color. Thin ring of off-white head. Lots of ginger, and tart tannic on this. Some oxidization in the flavor, unfortunately. Kind of gingery. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Lightly slick. Nice tart grape aroma, but it generally just tastes off to me. Moderate sweet, light to moderate bitter, and a little tart. Interesting stuff... Aroma is just off cbfobes (2883) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - MAY 29, 2014
On tap at the brewpub, I had a sample during the GTMW ticket line, but later had a full pour. I thought I enjoyed the sample, (after 4 hours of drinking in the parking lot) but did not enjoy the full pour at all. Aroma was of huge ginger and spice, it basically takes over the beer and just by smelling it you wouldn’t even know this is barrel aged, the flavor was all over the place, sour front end with a spice like finish, really dry mouthfeel was left, ugh, couldn’t even finish it. crossovert (12934) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 4, 2014
Draft. Too much going on here, ginger, wine, tannic, leafy, vinous, sweet, tart, somehwat funky and sour, it is a mess.
