Nice dubbel. Pours dark, clear ruby. Nose is dark fruits - prune, dates. Taste is a nice blend of smooth toffee malt, a little Belgian clove, some nice date or fig flavor. Slightly noticeable alcohol on the palate, but finished smooth, slightly sweet.

Draught sample at the brewpub, September 23rd. Looks totally black when I receive it in the darkness of this very dim brewpub, but when held up to a lamp it’s more a clear dark bronze, just a bit of head even when shaken...nose is faintly raisiny with lots of caramel malts, a decent yeast component shows up when warmed - a bit of mildew perhaps? but in a good way!...very sweet at the front, caramel and port wine, but as it warms and as the taste goes on some nice acidity and a bit of tartness and bitter chocolate enter and it finishes more dryly than could have been predicted...nicely full body, perfect supple carbonation. This draft brew from the brewery poured a head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were fully diminished and left behind a uncarbonated transparent red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The off-tasting mildly vinous mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The odd tasting flavor contained notes of raisin and ginger. Sample at the brewpub. Slightly hazy brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that recedes gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, dark fruit and caramel. 3oz on tap at the brewpub. Mostly hazy dark red, slight brown color to it. Nice thin khaki head, decent bits of lace. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Some caramel malt, bigger dark fruit, light spiciness to the aroma. Some belgian yeast and candy sugar. Moderate spicy taste, moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light bit of heat. Tap at the brewery - medium amber with a light haze - this one has some potential, but is far too sweet and alcoholic - there are some nice notes of plum and toffee, along with some spicy phenolics, but a sugary sweetness washes these out and the alcohol heat in the finish is a bit much. Dark amber pour - really nice nose on this one, permeating the table (maybe I’m just extra thirsty). Served in a pretty big chalice glass. A bit disappointed, they have the Apple Brandy version listed on their menu but don’t expect to tap it until the weekend - WTF? This may taint my rating. Lots of dark fruit in the aroma and the taste. Just a hint of booze in the finish. Nice spice character from the Belgian yeast as well. Nice.
