Draught glass (tulip) at the brewpub, September 23rd. Copper-bronze with a fair bit of lasting off-white head, hazy...pleasant spicy-sweet nose offers cherries and brown and candy sugar, mint and thyme; it certainly smells it’s strength too, not so much a harsh alcoholic bit but just a "thickness" that denotes such...very sweet at the front, with some yeasty (sourdough) touches making themselves known, a bit of a dry and tart rye bread characteristic, hints of Coca-Cola...very soft, supple body, fairly strong and rambunctious carbonation. Sample at the brewpub. Reddish-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily to a wispy film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit and yeast. Full-bodied and slightly syrupy with flavors of earthy yeast, caramel malt and plums. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Draft at Vintage. Chunky blood-red-brown, unfiltered. Thin, oily head. Sweet, semi-subdued amber malty aroma. Very fruity, quite amber malt forward...one dimensionally so. Some nice vanilla tinged yeast nuances. Boozy, but thick and yeasty enough to mellow it out. Fruity, a step above par for a US Barleywine. Soft and creamy on the palate, really mellows as it sits. On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Rich caramel aroma with a very sweet caramel taste. Surprisingly light - lighter than I was expecting... not bad.

Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is orange-amber with a khaki head. Aroma is spicy with notes of dried fruit and a touch of funk. Flavor is trail mix with notes of banana chips, raisin, apple, cotton candy, clove, and a touch of earth. Overall body is moderate, somewhat sweet, and the alcohol is pretty much non existent for having such a substantial ABV. Damn good stuff. On tap at Vintage. Poured medium amber with a dense cap of whitish head. The aroma was spicy with white pepper and darker fruits over warm bread and caramel sugars.. warm undertones, but the alcohol was very well held in check. The flavor found raisins, banana, and darker fruit at the core.. peppery alcohol, more fruit, and dry earthy notes around.. sugary hotness on the finish. On tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-amber with very little head. Not much on the nose at all--some warming alcohol, apricots, melon, and a syrupy sweetness. Taste is light heat with some tropical fruit, a big sweet malt backbone, and the same syrupy, sugary sweetness. Pours hazy yellow with white head. Aroma is belgian yeast to the maximum, banana, clove, some sweet bubble gum. Taste up front is sweet bubblegum, banana, other touch of fruit and biscuit leading into spicy clove, and finishing sweet. No alcohol while drinking, but hits you later, well hidden! Nice belgian brew.
