On tap at the brewpub - Pours ruby red with a fine-bubbled white head. Smells soapy and perfumey (I’m assuming from the hibiscus). Floral, with light, dusty yeast. Tastes lightly sour to begin, then cherries come in. Lightly sweet, with malt taking over in the finish--bready, with some nice dusty/earthy yeast. Light perfume and floral layers in the finish. On tap at Vintage Brewpub as Hibiscus Saison. Translucent deep amber with a medium white head that sticks. Aroma is spicy, floral and herbal. Taste in line with aroma, very herbal with floral notes. Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber red with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of hibiscus and light Belgian yeast with flora and grain backing. On tap at the brewery, pours a hazy ruby red with some creamy, white head. Nose is floral with some distinct berry notes, fresh currants, a little cherry, herbal tea. Flavor has some fresh red berry, a light peppery note, some honey sweetness. Dry finish with just a prick on the tongue. Solid.

Draft on tap the brewpub (Madison, WI). Pours a reddish pink hue, glowing with a touch of haze, bigger frothy offwhite head stays as a good film, laces well. Aromas are mellow tart Hibiscus, florals, bread, and mellow sweet malts. Initial is medium bodied, cool and inviting with gentle florals, touches of tart Hibiscus, some bread dough, more tartness, a touch of lemon, faint spice. Really inviting and easy going. Into the backend, more florals and dry bread, touches of spice, a touch of hops. A bit of a one trick pony, some decent life.. But then falls off. Ok. The third sample in the flight was a fruity saison with a twist. Tropical beers are good for this time of year. Even if the temperatures were somewhat mild for August this hit the spot. I can’t wait to try the saisons in the cellar.
Aroma / Appearance - The warm mandarin body glowed. Earth and hibuscus share the spotlight like a floral bouquet pulled from a potting plant. There is a dry tartness that hits after a few seconds for more punch.
Flavor / Palate - Tart apple crisp, a floral middle, and sweet hay star in a sessionable beer that refreshed the palate. The only flaw is a medicinal aspect that pops up from time to time. Take that away and I could drink it all night.
