Special cask at Great Taste of the Midwest and was available only during the beer and Mini-meal 3 pm seminar.
Brewed with a small portion of smoked malt, our German-style smed wheat ale has the easy drink ability of a Hefeweizen but with a medium body and a rustic, satisfying flavor.

Hazy gold. Apple, banana, pear esters with barely any perceived smoke. Citrus, apple, pear with wheat malt, and again, the faintest of salty smoke. Easy drink, but pump the smoke up a bit. Not sure how fresh this batch is, but the smoke is usually the first thing to leave.

I missed this one during Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 as it was only available during a mini-meal and beer seminar. This time around it was available at the Vintage brewpub in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear amber colored brew with a creamy off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of Hefe yeast, banana esters, some clove and smoked peat. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of banana esters, a hint of apricot, smoked peat and a hint of caramel. Finish is semi-dry with a lingering smoked peat aftertaste.

On tap at Vintage Brewpub. Hazy apricot with a thin white topper. Aroma of smoked malts at first with the hefeweizen behind it yeast, banana and sweet malt. Taste is of a lightly smoked hefe which is nice as the hefe flavors come through and the smoke is more of an accent rather than overpowering presence it is in some of the other Ruachbiers Ive tried. Banana bread and smoked malt, yum with yeast, banana, mild clove and finishes up mild smoked banana.

On tap at the brewpub, pours a murky golden with a nice white head and spotty lacing, the aroma has nice notes of banana with clove, the flavor has a hint of smoke in the finish with a decent amount of fruit as well, interesting brew.

10/22/11. On tap at the brewpub. Hazy golden pour with a small khaki head that sticks. Mostly hefeweizen characteristics on the aroma - banana, cream, and clove - with a subtle salty smoke aspect. The flavor is much the same, bold hefe, and barely smokey.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours hazy amber with a thin white head. Lots of hefe notes on the nose--banana, cloves--but not a lot of smoke. Similar taste, with the banana sweetness amped up and a touch of smoke on the finish, along with a mineral note. Lovely carbonation and a medium body. This really works well, and it something Id have again if I saw it on tap.
