Ingredients: Water (from one of Europe’s deepest wells); Malted Barley (Lithuanian); Sugar; Saaz Hops; Yeast.
‘Viru’ (pronounced ‘veer-roo’) is becoming a well known Baltic states’ beer export. Brewed in the university town of Tartu, Viru is packaged in a octahedral bottle designed over 100 years ago, and thought to be based on the churches and towers of old Tallinn, capital of Estonia.

I found this to have a rather nice aroma of hops and a mild sweetness scent to it. The taste resembled something different to a lager and in my opinion was more like an ipa but slightly sweeter. The thing that attracted me to this beer was the shape of the bottle and I wasn’t disappointed with my selection. I would give this another go if I came across it again although because of the rich flavour of hops I wouldn’t recommend this as a session beer as it is very rich. Also I did find it very well carbonated and to some extent maybe a little to much. That being said it’s tasty a little quirky and comes in a fun bottle.

Bottle. 300 ml? What? Estonia, right? Sugary malts, some corn, hops quite subdued, but no true astringencies here... so, it’s a drinkable macro-lager. Enjoy?

Bottiglia.

From a bottle. Not much going on really, did have to travel a long way to get here so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Great looking bottle. Pours a light gold colour with a creamy head that lingers. Soft sweet malty taste. Not to bitter. Pleasant to drink

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2016 Bottle at Punchbowl York. Poured into tulip glass. Pours pale golden in colour with a creamy white head. Weak aroma. Slightly sweet but faint. Very soft yet explosive carbonation. Taste is sweet and malty. Notes of vanilla. It is reminiscent of cream soda. Crisp finish with lingering vanilla. Definitely poor as a lager but great as an oddity. Pleasantly refreshing and a welcome change to the norm. Excellent bottle too

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Hazy pale gold with a small white head. Aroma of grass, light malts, and hint of fruitiness. Similar taste with a mildly sweet/bitter finish.

Straight from the bottle at Plage de Cleut Rouz. Sweet malts, chalk. Light sweet and bitter. Under medium body, average carbonation, soft chalky feel, pretty decent.

Aroma: sickly sweet; I’m scared; Appearance: pale straw with clear pour and nonexistent head; Taste: lager that succombed to sickly sweetness; gross; Palate: light bodied with long, sweet finish; Overall: no interest in trying again.
