Bottle of labelled Viven smoked porter shared with JMD at HNB 23.11.17. Elmost ebony. Foamy brown head and lacing. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, dark syrup, wood, pine, smoke, vanilla and brittle. Good bitterness. Holmen1 (6574) - Stavanger, NORWAY - NOV 23, 2017
Aroma: malt, coffee and caramel-sweetness. Taengfimeu (5) - Marseille, FRANCE - OCT 25, 2017 does not count
Taste: malt-bitterness, salty caramel, somehow bbq-herbs too, coffee... .
Appearance: blackest black, bit of head that does not last long.
Palate: full body, thick, long finish and the finish lasts with bitter and herbs.
I guess it's well made but the combination of bitter/sweet and salty herbs does not work for me. I find it a bit odd. Not my thing at all.
Medium intensity of aromas : sweet and salty , toffee and caramel. Flavours over medium intensity same as aromas. Nicely colored and persistent head. Overall a nice beer to give a shot! Jimbo2 (554) - DENMARK - OCT 25, 2017
Seems of balance. Plenty of smoke, thin body. Medium carbonation. Would prefer more body.

Piana obfita drobna , trwała, zdobi szkło. Kolor czarny. Aromat wędzonka ogniskowa, szynkowa, dominuje zapach. Smak podobnie wyraźne wędzone słody, palonośc, czekolada, lekko popiół, akcenty suszonych owoców, karmel. Ciało średnie, nagazowanie zauważalne, alkohol ukryty. Dobry wędzony porter. The looks of the beer are near perfect. The color of the beer is near black. It is very dark, to dark to say anything about the clarity. In bright light the beer has a nice ruby red glow. On top of the beer some rough brown foam is formed. The majority of the foam collapses rather quick, leaving a minimal drape. A tiny bit of lacing is left on the glass. Nice.
The smell of the beer is delicious. I like this. It has nice strong malt aromas. I smell salted caramel, some coffee, smoke, oak wood and a hint of chocolate. The malt aromas are both sweet and slightly bitter. Nice. The smell mainly consists of malt aromas. The hops are only very slightly present and give a slight refreshing touch. Not bad though.
The taste of the beer is superb. There are again strong bitter sweet malts. There is salted caramel, smoke, BBQ, chocolate, coffee, a touch of liquorice. It is delicious. The malts are besides bitter and sweet also slightly salt, because of the smoke. Delicious combination. There are also some hop flavours. They are stronger than in the smell, but still very mild. They give a nice fresh touch, with a slight acidic feature. The beer is perfectly balanced. All flavours are represented, and in a perfect combination.
The palate of the beer is nice. Full body, smooth texture and high carbanion. The high carbonation in combination with the alcohol tingles the tongue nicely. The finish contains nice alcohol, smokey malts and some nice fresh bitter hops. The hops are pretty present here. Lovely. All in all, a lovely porter. Belongs the top.
I found this bottle in bierhandlung shop in Freiburg am Brisgau. I tried this nectar yesterday at home, coming back from the work. It was a really nice experience to try my first Belgian porter and I was not disappointed. It is a classical one, between a British and American style, we are close to one stout. Some "craft breweries" make porter but sometimes the taste is too watery and there is a lack of aroma. This one is well done with solid ingredients and you smell that directly at the nose. The color is a delicious black body, white and brown foam, normal carbonation. The taste is with perfect notes of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, liquorice, hop, some bitterness, well balanced, nothing to say more, next one please!!!!!! De eerste Porter doe ik gedronken heb. Mooie donkere kleur met een goeie kraag.
