Very good brown-beige head, stable, leaving lacerings over near-black beer with some red-brown reflections. Soft smoked-woody notes, wet wood, lightly phenolic, not salty. Coffee, cigarashes, smoked with just a touch of sweet maple syrup in the background. Medium bodied, very slick, ever so slight alcoholwarming. Easy drinkable, smooth as it is. Nice smoked porter, maybe just a tad too timid, but obviously sporting very good balance. But - "Art of Flemish brewing"...porter...IPA...?? planky84 (3429) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 30, 2010
Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Pours black with a tan head. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, smoke, coffee. Very nice nose. Smoky, burnt wood flavours with a hint of coffee, licorice and chocolate. Good roasted malt character. Very well balanced. Smoky-sweet hoppy finish. Very nice. Trappistenbier (52) - BELGIUM - MAR 24, 2010
Viven Porter, a SMOKED Porter at 7.0 vol%. This is the first commercially available smoked porter made inside Belgium! A revelation!

This beer pours completely black !
The foam is creamy and brown colored. Folks, that’s already a sign of quality !
Now, this is stunning folks !
I already had this beer at the Bruges Beer Fest, and was already surprised by it.
This time, some bottle conditioning has even done some more complexity.
Nosing immediatly gives roasty and smokey accents, and this in perfect harmony with - again - fruity yeasty flavours.
Tasting gives a very thick beer. Wow, what a dense liquid.
I taste sweetness, smokey malt flavours, tobacco, fruits (plums-raisins-dried fruit), roasty malts, coffee.
Again, an amazing brew this is from Dirk Naudts. Jerre (3823) - Waregem, BELGIUM - MAR 4, 2010

Really an outstanding beer. Truly roasty with no fruity esters to get in the way. Draft at Bruges beer fest. Almost totally black but for a mahogany highlight. Nose like cold, sweet black coffee, with touches of nut and mocha. Roasty, roasty, roasty with a touch of smoke. Moderate bitterness with mostly an impression of sweetness. Really quite dry with an espresso aftertaste. Lively mouthfeel. Borresteijn (7491) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 15, 2009
On tap at 3rd Brugs BF. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of strong roasted malts, coffee, moccha, some tar. Flavour of hard roasted malts, tar, light sweet, liquorice, bit of yeast, mostly bitter coffee. Light to medium bodied. Nice one.
