Viven Porter, a SMOKED Porter at 7.0 vol%. This is the first commercially available smoked porter made inside Belgium! A revelation!
Notice the care that’s been taken for the image.
Black lettered labels and capped with a black crown cork.
This beer pours completely black !
The foam is creamy and brown colored. Folks, that’s already a sign of quality !
Now, this is stunning folks !
I already had this beer at the Bruges Beer Fest, and was already surprised by it.
This time, some bottle conditioning has even done some more complexity.
Nosing immediatly gives roasty and smokey accents, and this in perfect harmony with - again - fruity yeasty flavours.
Tasting gives a very thick beer. Wow, what a dense liquid.
I taste sweetness, smokey malt flavours, tobacco, fruits (plums-raisins-dried fruit), roasty malts, coffee.
Again, an amazing brew this is from Dirk Naudts.
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2018 Smoky, roasty, malty, medium bodied with notes of coffee and chocolate. Same follows in the aftertaste. SinH4 (6573) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - JAN 14, 2018
Bottle. Dark brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma is coffee, light smoke, chocolate, some bready notes. Taste is smoked, ash, chalky, mineralic. Silky fatty mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Very nice! aleanguz91 (181) - Grignasco (NO), ITALY - JAN 11, 2018
Bevuta il 11/1/17 @BlackHole in Novara. Bottiglia "Smoked Porter". Nero impenetrabile. Schiuma color nocciola, cremosa e persistente. Al naso note tostate, di caffè e leggermente affumicate. In bocca note caffettose, leggera nocciola, cioccolato al latte. Scaldandosi la nota affumicata al palato emerge sempre più. Poco amara. Texture vellutata. Bel corpo, avvolgente. Finale leggermente secco e con una punta acidula. chrisv10 (18734) - DENMARK - JAN 1, 2018

Bottle of labelled Viven smoked porter shared with JMD at HNB 23.11.17. Elmost ebony. Foamy brown head and lacing. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, dark syrup, wood, pine, smoke, vanilla and brittle. Good bitterness. Holmen1 (6662) - Stavanger, NORWAY - NOV 23, 2017
Aroma: malt, coffee and caramel-sweetness.
Taste: malt-bitterness, salty caramel, somehow bbq-herbs too, coffee... .
Appearance: blackest black, bit of head that does not last long.
Palate: full body, thick, long finish and the finish lasts with bitter and herbs.
I guess it's well made but the combination of bitter/sweet and salty herbs does not work for me. I find it a bit odd. Not my thing at all. Taengfimeu (5) - Marseille, FRANCE - OCT 25, 2017 does not count
Medium intensity of aromas : sweet and salty , toffee and caramel. Flavours over medium intensity same as aromas. Nicely colored and persistent head. Overall a nice beer to give a shot! Jimbo2 (554) - DENMARK - OCT 25, 2017
Seems of balance. Plenty of smoke, thin body. Medium carbonation. Would prefer more body.
