COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
„Volfas Engelman“ is a pride of interwar Lithuania, the best Lithuanian beer which received the highest evaluations in different exhibitions from Kaunas to Paris.

(Bottled on 2008-06-20) Pale yellow and clear. Big white bubbly head. Hints of malts and hops in nose. Some carbonation in medium palate that turns dry. Hops, fruitiness and sweetness in taste. Nothing special.

568 ml bottle. Clear pale golden body with a small white head. Weak aroma of grain, more than less just like a weak version of any mass produced industrial lager. Not much favor either, corn with some light harsh bitterness. Thin and watery body almost no aftertaste. Very boring and close to unpleasant.

At the Grand Lager Tasting, thanks Naam, pours pale yellow with a nice head, aroma of cheese, marmalade, grass and some acids, flavor of malt with some sweetness and alcohol notes, light body.

Can. Straw yellow body, short-lived white head. Nose is pale malts, metallic grassy notes and hints of wet paper. Taste is sweet pale malts, maize and some faint grass tones. Metallic aftertaste. Light body, fizzy carbonation. Yuck. The most pleasing thing about this beer must be the elaborate aluminum foil wrapped around the top of the can, which is kind of a nice (albeit horribly kitschy) touch. :-P

Ogi’s, from Lithuania, pint can, thanks! Poured a golden body with a medium sized white head. Dry malty aroma, slightly sweetish perhaps. Empty, dry taste, some mild sweetish graininess perhaps, extremely, extremely light bitter note. Seriously? No off flavors, but, then again, pretty much no flavors at all. Yeah, I kinda dig the Volfas Engelman graphical/historical scheme. Too bad the beers aren’t nearly worth it.

Can from Deya, burton. Pale yellow beer with small head. Aroma of sweetcorn and pale malts. Taste is weak malts and sweetcorn. Soft on the palate. Not much going on. Not good.

Can from Lithuanica, Birmingham. This is most certainly a game of two halves. Smells like a bald tennis ball. Upon swigging however, that early unpromise fades away to reveal a minerally, well constructed lager which hints at Germanic-ness. So far so good, but then it blemishes itself with a finish of rabid formica and Co-Op shelving during a stock check. I sort of like it.

vipinvelp (4376) - Velp, NETHERLANDS - MAR 21, 2012
Very light yellow color, almost too clear. Flat taste with small taste of malts, Öl for bitterness. Served as special but isn't. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
