Alengrin (5561) - BELGIUM - OCT 23, 2016
Bottle from a Delhaize supermarket in Ghent. Some slow gushing after opening. ’Papery’ lacing, dense, moussy, off-pinkish-coloured head over a deep, clear ruby red beer with dark bronze-ish hue. Aroma dominated by sticky red candy (the dreaded ’poepegatjes’), white sugar, molasses, heavily sugared elderberry syrup and grenadine, cherry ’pralines’, caramel, stewed rhubarb, cardboard, honey. Evidently very sweet onset, heavily sugared and sticky, red candy with a light apple-ish fruitiness buried underneath it as well as a ’dim’, blackcurrant-like background sourishness; finely tingling carbo, full mouthfeel with the sugar unpleasantly sticking to the palate. Caramelly and lightly bready malt sweetness underlies the ongoing red candy stickiness and exaggerated, almost childish sweetness but there is a brief hint of earthy hop bitterness all the way at the back trying to counter it - unsuccesfully, of course. This is again one of those heavy top-fermented sweet krieks which, for some reason, still enjoy popularity especially in the French-speaking part of Belgium and in France, with a younger audience; sweet is the most accessible of flavors and in this type of beers, sweetness is enlarged to a caricature, dominating the entire palate from beginning to end. Strongly reminds me of that equally ridiculous and superfluous Delirium Red - we’re very close here to an alias of that one, I suspect. luklaer (187) - BELGIUM - AUG 10, 2015

Taste this yesterday 02.08.2014 from 33 cl. @ home (from Marlou).
Hazy dark redbrown color, with a pinkish white head.
Aroma: sweet, syropy. Medium body.
Taste: sweet, syropy (cherries), little bitter, red fruit candy, artificel.
to sweet for me. Heyvie (1) - Overmere, BELGIUM - JUN 22, 2014 does not count
Quite strong beer.
The fruit taste is to much pronounced.
For my taste it is to sweet because a ’cherry’ beer should be refreshing, ’specially’ in warm seasons. berntholer (1617) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - MAY 19, 2014
slight beige head fades with some lacing. murky redbrown colour. aroma of sugary strawberry jam and red fruits. taste is more syrupy and sugary strawberry jam after the sweet finish comes an astringent aftertaste, dense syrupy mouthfeel. medium carbonation. bottle 33cl Benzai (16311) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JAN 1, 2014
Bottle @ home. Hazy red color, full sized pinkish head that lasts for quite a while. Smell lemonade, sweetness, red fruits, cassis, cherries. Taste cherries, sweetness, sugar. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad I think, but I don’t like these sort of beers at all. Gave it to the girlfriend. kraddel (8619) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - NOV 24, 2013
