COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our Imperial Stout that we age in conditioning tanks with oak staves. This adds a classic character of old world aging without the Bourbon tones. This black ale is about 12% ABV and very rich in roasted and chocolate malt tones. Velvety smooth and able to be aged for years. For now this will be a seasonal beer offering.

From bomber at Zeno’s courtesy of dpjuart. Smoky, oaky, chocolate Twizzlers. Roasted malt and coffee beans, dark chocolate. Good ’n Plenty. Super aroma. Dark black with little head. Medium viscous body with medium carbonation and smooooth. Starts sweet with chocolate, coffee, lactose, and vanilla. Tasty with light alcohol, oak, and toasted marshmallow. This is really a good impy stout with a nice touch of smoky character. Great find.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla oak, dark fruits, chocolate, and a bit of smoke. Taste of of more roasted malts up front, smoke, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, with a dry coffee finish, and some alcohol as well.

Poured an almost pitch black color with a small tan head. Aroma was very roasted, hints of burnt coffee and the bourbon shines through a little bit also. Flavor was very surprising. Not like a lot of impys where one flavor sticks out, here, the oak/bourbon, chocolate, coffee and vanilla all meld very well and cover up the alcohol extremely well. Not quite why this is retired, its going to be released in bottles very soon according to the brewer.

On tap at the KSBF ’08. Poured a dark black color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of wood, smoky, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes of wood, the same smokiness, coffee, earthy, light vanilla, and chocolate. Light alcohol finish. I didn’t really get any bourbon in this.

Philly Craft Beer Festival. Small plastic sample cup. Dark brown with a tan head. Nose is coffee, hop funk and molasses. Taste similar with chocolate, oak, vanilla and some hop bite. Molasses finish.

Sample at PCBF 08. Pours a deep black with a medium creamy/bubbly lighter tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, oak, earthy notes and some vanilla. Flavor of roasted malt, cocoa, just a touch of bourbon, some oak, there is a decent amount of hop bitterness still present in this one and some vanilla. ABV well hidden.
