COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an Imperial Stout that is of great strength and complexity. We then gently age that beer in Elaigh Craig 13 1/2 year old Bourbon Barrels for 6 months to 1 yr. and then primed and bottled to bottle condition for continued aging and celler life. Black Magick should be able to be aged up to about 5 years, to heighten the complexity and smooth nature of this beer. First Black Magick brewed in Feb 2007. Released 2009. = 15% ABV Second Black Magick brewed in 2009 and released 2011. = 15.5% ABV

Opaque black - brown beer, tan head. Dark malt and dark chocolate nose with an unfortunate whiff of paint. Light palate with moderate carbonation. Taste follows the nose and that includes that emulsion paint tone that some barrel aged beers suffer from. A little bourbon underneath but the paint overwhelms and I didn’t enjoy this at all.

Shared at tasting on May 29, 2010. Thanks Pete! Review from notes. This beer is black with a thin beige head that leaves no lacing. It has the look of being a very strong stout. There is a huge and powerful aroma with lots of heat coming through in the form of bourbon. Roasted malt is present as well, though secondary to the liquor aroma. This beer has a bold flavor, filled with thick roast and bourbon. To say that there is warming alcohol in the finish is an understatement. It’s definitely a sipper. This is a great beer to share a few ways and sip by the fire.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, roasted malt, bourbon, and a bit of soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, soy sauce, roasted malt, and bourbon, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours an opaque pitch black with a tiny beige head. Nose is dominated by heavy booze and tarish roast. Rich, rich body, lowish carbonation, sweet roast, dark dried fruits and quite some roast. Violent boozy finish. Serious stuff indeed but very enjoyable. 030612

Had this a while back at a tasting. Pitch black pour, small tanned head. Big roasty toasty bourbon filled nose that translates right into the flavor as well. Fair amount of dark chocolate notes mixed with vanilla strewn about. Bit overdone on the bourbon, but not necessarily in the most polite way. Thick thick thick! Damn good brew though!

Pours jet black into my bruery tulip. Paper thin head and little to no lacing. Aroma is all bourbon, very hot and boozy I can already tell this need some time in the cellar. Taste follows the nose but finishes with coffee and a lingering vanilla. It’s tasty but I think it would be even better with a year on it.

Big thanks to MikeLovesBeer for sharing this one. This was 10’ vintage I believe. Still hot and could use another year of aging perhaps. Bourbon all over the place. Heavy on the chocolate and sweet malt flavor as well. Overall damn good but would like to see how it ages some.
