On tap, Hawthornes. Pours a dark amber with a frothy off-white head. The nose is a little light at first, some dark malts, sweet raisin/prune fruitiness, and some light chocolate notes, lighter herbal qualities. The flavor was rather dry for what I was expecting, though there’s a little sweetness on the back end from the raisins. Lots of subtle spice notes and a nice yeast influence. The roast notes and the spice really play off each other well. Medium bodied with a little clinginess and moderate fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice, certainly interesting. On draft at Rattle’n’Hum. I didn’t really taste raisins, hibiscus, and juniper - but I did taste an interesting brew. Pretty dry with some herbal/spicy notes, e.g. chocolate and chili. The aroma was bready. Pretty mellow and not heavily hopped, and I am pretty sure the ABV was below 8%. This was released by not one, but two, breweries I had not heard of before - I look forward to seeing some more from them. blipp (9598) - La Mesa, California, USA - AUG 30, 2010
Draft. Brown with a beige head. Spicy flowery aroma with dark chocolate malts, dark fruits, earthy notes, and a hint of smoke. The flavor is very clean. There’s a lot going on, but it’s well integrated and no one flavor dominates. Earthy, a touch of fruity sweetness, general spiciness, flowers, and chocolate malts. I don’t know what the hell this was but I know that it was delicious. italarican (1549) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 26, 2010
Tap at RnH. Dark but thin brown pour with small tan head. Faint aroma of nutmeg, malt, and dark chocolate. Flavor is very faint as well: a touch of sweet spice and bitter chocolate. Dry, light finish. Little going on here, but there’s potential. thirdeye11 (6162) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 17, 2010
(22oz bomber filled from Bierkraft thanks to bu11zeye) clear medium brown with tan bubbles on top. Nose of banana, brown sugar, chocolate malt and mild alcohol. Taste of chocolate malt, alcohol, toasty caramel with a creamy/tingly body and linger of dry cocoa.

bottle, thanks to bu11zeye, dark pepsi color with foam ring, aromas of scotchy fruits with a flavor of dried fruitcake and sour nuts Travlr (25854) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 13, 2010
Cask. Hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma of malt and hay. Taste is slightly sour, slightly acidic, with some vanilla, cherry. Interesting. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUL 30, 2010
Draft. Dark pour with some light head. Slight chocolate malt, some dark fruits, berries, spice, juniper and hibiscus standing out. tgncc (3140) - Bellmore, New York, USA - JUL 21, 2010
Toasted malts on the nose, burnt. Appearance is black/brown, red hue, light tan head. The flavor is roasty, herbs, spices. The finish is unremarkable, light spicyness. Medium in body. Odd how I got no juniper berries or fruits. Ok. Somewhat enjoyable. j12601 (13036) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - JUL 17, 2010
On tap at Spuyten Duyvil for the Stillwater event. Pours a black to brown color with a thin beige head. Chocolate and spice, smells a bit like a winter spice cake. Chocolate and roast, spicy and toast. Somewhat odd, and not exactly what I was expecting. Toast on the finish. Not bad, but not for me.
