UPDATED: JUL 16, 2010 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Creamy black pour. Weird, muddled mix of aromas, I guess the spice mix is there but the pieces are tough to pick out. Some clove, wheat, peanut brittle. Limp flavor profile, peanut, dirt. A bit chemically in the finish. Not great. Not much personality or definition of flavors. Could use less spicing. Tap at Spuyten: Pours a deep opaque brown topped by a tan ring of head. Toasted dark crystal malt aroma. Mild unsweetened cocoa and toasted clove spices. Mild carbonation with a light body. Nice and dry with a deep toasted note. A touch of cocoa and rum like spiciness without the sweetness. A touch of clove and toasted dry dark malt tannin residuals. Not bad. boamr (310) - Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 13, 2010

Draft at Churchkey. Dark brown, almost black pour with good lacing and lots of bubbles. Light tan head sits on top. Subtle, but complex aroma. Dark roast with some coffee and toffee. Light berries and fruit and lots of spice. Very easy drinking despite the ABV. Spicy, floral flavor. Lots of roast with a cotton candy and bubble gum notes. Hides the alcohol very well. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 2, 2010

Tap at Capones during PBW10. Pours a dark brown with amber notes and a medium creamy off white head. Aroma of toffee, toasted malt and various herbal spices. Flavor of the same. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 13, 2010
Tap at Hawthornes. Pours a nice ashy deep dark woody brown nearing to black with a nice fluffy lasting off beige head- good lace. Aroma is good clean phenolic yeast, slight ashy but nice airy phenolics, and spices, light flowery herbs- slight dark chocolate lots of earthy, yeast, spice, seafoam, shells and mineral character with some nutty chocolate. Flavor is earthy, leather, light spice, airy yeasty phenolics, dirt, nutty porter-like but lighter and easier drinking, wet beach sand, very light on the fruity esters which makes it nice and seem cleaner and easier to drink- mineral, pitty and slight woody cedar and berry finish- clean and crisp in the end and very easy to drink. Weizenbock?? Not even close, but it was still a great beer whatever style it is. Most of the spices and herbs are hardly noticed and not overpowering at all which is probably a good thing. Belgian Dark wheat ale maybe? or just spice herb vegetable I guess. hopdog (12341) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 13, 2010
