Cask (gravity) @ NWAF 10, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.
[ As Watkins Whiskey Cask Cider ABV 7.2% ].
Light unclear light to medium yellow color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate sour apple. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate acidic with a long duration, vanilla, wood - cask - whisky notes, dry dry. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.
Cask. Listed as 7.2% ABV. Pours a cloudy opaque yellow with a tiny white head. Tart apple and distinct whisky and wood in the nose. Medium body, extremely astringent apple accents - loads of tannins here. Extremely dry with some alcohol in the finish. The aroma is clearly the best feature about this cider. 220110 DJMonarch (9179) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - JAN 31, 2010
Cask Stillage at NWAF The Venue, Miles Platting 22/01/2010 (As Whisky Cask Cider ABV 7.2%)
Slight whisky aroma. Golden coloured and hazy in appearance. Fruity and smooth on the palate with a little dryness in a whisky flavoured finish. cgarvieuk (26360) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 20, 2008
Cask at Edinburgh beer festival 2008 ... Golden orange ... light sweet nose ... tart appple only a hint of whiskey .... very dry in linger. harrisoni (19534) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JUN 9, 2008
Bottled from bag in a box at Rare Breeds BF 08. The one I had said 7% but seems to be about the same. Islay cask style aroma. Peaty. Not my favourite as anyone on this site will know. I mean the base cider is fine, but I just don’t like Islay whisky. Nothing wrong with it, but for me, a drain pour.

Bag in Box Blackfriers. Aroma is peaty smokey whiskey with tart cider vinigar apples, but relativly sweet. Taste is similar whisky with lots of sweet apple cider notes. Body is thin though which is quite unexpected and makes for dangerous drinking. MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2007

Thanks a lot to Terry Tibbs for picking this one up and bringing it over. Cloudy and pale yellow brown. Lots of legs due to the alcohol. Pear and apple aroma with slight eathy whiskey notes and seriously boozy. Clear whiskey in the mouth. Glowing warmth on the way down. A tang of sweet apples and almost citric notes dance accross the tongue nicely. All of a sudden they are slapped in the face by a dry charcoal and wonderfully peaty / smoky finish. So close to fantastic but I can’t help but feel it is stifled a little by all the alcohol. Good, but could be stunning.
Cask @ Piglet BF. Hazy gold no head. Apple, pear and just a hint of peaty whiskey that gives it a slightly antiseptic nose. Sweet apple at first then the whiskey kicks in, smokey and peaty like a mouthfull of charcoal. The smokeyness lingers for a while afterward and there’s some warmth also, I quite enjoyed it. These barrel aged ciders can be a bit hit and miss but this combo seemed to work for me personally.
