Big malt, light hops and none of the usual pumpkin/ginger/nutmeg nonsense that brewers love putting in their winter offerings. The color is a deep rich ruby red that almost seems iridescent (sp?) when held up to the light. Heaps of caramel malt predominate with enough carbonation and hop bitterness to keep the beer a well-balanced and great tasing winter beer. muzzlehatch (4958) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 25, 2004
12 oz bottle. Medium-to-dark coppery complexion, smallish lasting French vanilla head. Simple but eloquent, powerful caramel nose; stunning malted-milk texture that sets off the simple, earthy sweet flavors and the dollop of finishing hops that keep the soft beer from becoming too mushy. Plummy, with hints of vanilla and cinnamon, but subtly done. So drinkable, so delcious, oh how I wish I'd bought more than one. Totally saves my opinion of this brewery; spectacular. cfranz (261) - Acton, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 19, 2004
nice body and colour with a creamy head. Spicy and fruity, not unlike a good fruitcake. DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2006
Lovely hazy ruby color, with aroma and flavors of caramel malt, berries, cabernet, cinnamon, nutmeg, and some hops. Complex flavor profile that gets spicier and creamier as it warms. This one was a great surprise. NateDawg1 (1) - Salem, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 9, 2005 does not count
Even though I hate winter, I love this big, clean, malty winter ale. Dark, ruby color with rocky white head. Minimal hoppiness and thankfully, no spices or herbs (I hate spiced beer).
I always look forward to this beer coming out in late autumn.

The last of the Wachusett beers to try... It has a nice red color with some carbonation and a sweet malted smell. Taste is smooth, malty and finishes with a touch of alcohol. Overall this is the best from Wachusett hands down. Sregnar35 (1030) - Rotterdam, New York, USA - DEC 2, 2006
On tap at Mahars. Poured a nice reddish brown with a deep thick ring with nice lacing. Aroma was not very strong, but was pleasant and sweet. Flavor and feel very nice, sweet and a bit tangy, nice and creamy. halfonit (1364) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 28, 2008
I liked this one! It was actually really good. Has a nice dark amber color to it. Has hints of malts and something sweet. Has a nice, sweeter flavor to it with hints of some types of fruits. Very pleasantly surprised with this. It all works out very nicely. Not too much of an aftertaste in the end. Overall this was a pleasure to have. I will definitely get this one again before the season’s over. If anybody sees this on the shelf, give it a try. This is a great brew for an ice cold night. Light fruit aroma, raison, plums. Garnett amber hue. Off white head. Sweet first, dark fruit, medium bodied, candy, bubblegum, then its a nice bitter finish. I definately enjoy this brew. Its sweet, but well balanced, hiding alcohol well. Definately quaffable. dirtymike (2016) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 7, 2004
