Pours a two finger cream head that fades to a thin layer leaving some lace. Clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Didn’t realize this was a Scottish Ale more like a brown. Mellow sweetness, some spiciness. Very drinkable. $1.42 for a 12oz bottle from Valley Liquors Methuen, MA. 12oz bottle. Poured a deeper orange color with a reddish tint and a larger sized off white head. Aromas of toasted caramel, some cherries and berries, and nuts. Tastes of caramel, chocolate, cherries, and roast. Heathen (1500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - FEB 14, 2010
THOUGHTS: Nice and malty. Toffee. Not all that Christmasy, but a nice winter warmer. All sorts of malts. Warming.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark orangey amber with a large, off-white head that left good lacing. The aroma was moderate toasted, nutty, molasses and caramel malts; light chocolate; light herbal and earthy hops; apple, cherry and toffee. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was rather sweet, lightly bitter and slightly sour with and average to long duration. There was toffee, caramel, a little chocolate, earthy hops, some citrus and earthy hops, burnt caramel, cookies, toasted and nutty malts, cherry and apple. The medium body was a bit syrupy and then a bit dry with fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic, slightly astringent and lightly dry finish. mcox90 (2088) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 11, 2013
Sampled at Mass Brewers Fest @ Julio’s. Poured a clear red/amber with a small, dense off white head. Sweet caramel nose with just a hint of smoke. Fairly sweet taste with more caramel malt and some nuttiness. Some spices. Sweet, but not overly so. Full bodied and warming.

On tap @ Coles .
Aroma of caramel, malt toffee and pit-fruit, ruby, wearing a small toffee head, some fine lace. Taste has a smoky malt, spices, red plum, apples, and humbugs. Medium to full bodied, nicely spiced, tongue tingling, warming, slightly sweet. Quite nice for the winter months.

Of the two winter beers I sampled tonight, this was far better than the other (Harpoon). Pours a nice amber color with a thick head and quite a bit of lacing. Very flavorful malty taste with lots of brown sugar notes in there. Relatively warming and quite smooth. There’s also some spice, with a slightly bitter finish. Nice. yespr (45508) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - MAR 2, 2011
From tap at Sunset Grill. Pours clear and golden orange with a small, creamy and white head. Aroma is mild fruity and slight malty to caramelish. Roasted malty and slight caramelish flavoured. Light bitter and medium dry finish. osoroso (11) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - APR 3, 2012
Malty sweet. Thick and heavy with a lot of flavor. I wish it had even more alcohol to match the rich taste. Would be great with very sharp pungent cheeses or savory meats. sailracer (486) - Massachusetts, USA - DEC 6, 2013
Bottle. Malty toasted flavor with a sort of odd aftertaste that I couldn’t place. Ok but not great
