Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Dark chestnut with cream head. There is quite a nutty, malty beer from the off, woody then molasses and a black treacle flavour with a hint of caramel. All sorts of dark flavours going on through the pint. Pretty decent.

tombyars (1766) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 9, 2015
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) on the 8th January 2015. Cask handpump dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin off white head. Strong malty aroma with notes of old leather and bramble jelly. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a moist maltloaf base with notes of prunes, molasses and liquorice. There is a good smack of earthy hop resins present in the bitter aftertaste which compliment the malt well. Finish is very robust and malty with strong old leather, dry liquorice, ak cask and walnuts full in the mouth. This is a cracking English Old Ale in style and was on form in the Last Post. Highly recommended.

Cask at the Ralph Fitz Randal (JDW), Richmond. Medium off white head. Deep amber to chestnut body. Milk chocolate, tropical fruit, cloves, red fruit. Bittersweet. Dry finish. Not great.

Cask at the Bank Statement Swansea. Very dark ruby, big foamy off-white head, full thick lacing. Aroma is ...non-existent. Body is light, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is resin, card, drying and astringent, tangy, soft bitterness. Average. Probably slightly dodgy condition given my experience with other beers here.

teorn88 (8066) - Rimini, ITALY - DEC 21, 2014
Cask at the Windmill JDW, Stansted Airport. It pours a dark amber / brown color with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is sweet and citric, with notes of caramel, toasted bread and lemon leaves. Taste is similarly medium sweet with some minor grainy citrousy drier finish. Notes of toffee, bread, citrus and grains. Medium to light bodied with soft to good carbonation. Overall, ok

3.2
BeerViking (5041) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 16, 2014
Cask at the Kings Tun, deep dark brown with a lasting thin head, toasted caramel and malt nose, burnt sugar bitterness, earthy hops, slight sweetness, hints of spice and blackcurrant, well made but uninspired and stereotypical.

Cask. Posters Gate JDW, York. Clear, reddy brown. Blobby, sticky, off white head. Red fruits. A bit nutty. Caramel malts. Taste is burnt bitter. Fairly dry. Some sweetness on the lips. Thin palate for the ABV. Finishes burnt bitter. Not for me.

allmyvinyl (11005) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - DEC 11, 2014
Cask at the Sir Walter Scott, Edinburgh airport. Pours dark ruby, thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee, light spice. Taste has more spice, nuts, toffee, chocolate at the back Some booziness. Quite thin for the strength. Ok.
