UPDATED: JUL 20, 2017 Half litre bottle poured into pint shaker. A: Golden, clear, small head which faded quickly. S: A combination of smoked meat and some noble hops. T: Quite malt forward with hints of smoke in the background. Medium body, moderate carbonation, crisp enough to go down well. O: A very quaffable smoked Helles. Kept the smoke in the background. Many thsnks for this beer to kevnic2008. Piwo ze srednia piana, koloru jasno bursztynowego, klarowne. Aromat landrynek i zytniego chleba, nieco makreli. Smak slodowy karmel, toffi i lekka wedzonka, typu makrela. Ale spodziewałem się wiedzej tych akcentow. Nie mniej daleko temu piwu do Schlenkerli i Spezial - My Favorite Rauchbier. Bottle purchased at the brewery, best by Dec. 2014 consumed in Aug. 2014: Coppery golden. Fine, pasty and creamy white foam. Polished aromas of minerals, flowers, toasted bread, tobacco, brown sugar and herbs. Lightly perceptible meatiness to the smoke. Lush, fine-bubbled carbonation. Fruity esters bring a bright punch of peach puree right out of the gate, which give way to rich smoked hay and the faintest hamlike tang. Pils malt reveals deep extraction and helps negate the meat qualities as vibrant hay dust is deposited across the palate. Bright and cleansing minerals dovetail with the perfectly measured Spalt, which provides a sassy fennel seed note. Nice toasty dryness also helps keep the meatiness at bay. Finishes spicily hoppy and subtly peachy, with a rich malt surge of breadcrust and smoked hay. Perhaps a bit simple, and I wouldn’t complain if this were more melanoidiny instead of meaty, but this is nicely clean and toasty, and the malt character is still quite lovely. Definitely has a character that exudes Franconia. Very sluggable rendition from a quality brewery.

On tap @FrankenBierFest, la Limonaia di Villa Torlonia (Rome). Pours hazy amber with a medium head. Flavour is smoked, malt, bread, grain, some hops, a little metallic note that rapidly disappears. Bottled. Lightly hazy amber, mid sized head. Distinct smoky ham aroma. Mid dry with medium body and well rounded mouthfeel. Fairly heavy smoke, meaty malt. Solid, mouthfilling, smoky, Mid bitter finish. Really nice.
