From the 1700s through the early 1900s steamboats were used to transport people and produce the length of Seneca Lake. If there were passengers at a dock a white flag was flown during the day and a red flag in the evening. Amber Lager is a malty, full-bodied Vienna style lager. Its strong malt flavor and aroma arise from generous amounts of Vienna and Caramel malts, complimented by a delicate aroma of Tettnang and Hallertau hops. Wagner Brewing Company is pleased to announce that we received an award for excellence for Wagner Valley Dockside Amber Lager.

Bottle. Aroma of nuts, sweet malt, big blast of soda syrup. Flavor of more nuts/peanut butter, sweet malt, some cherry/raisin, and more SODA. Carbonation borders on soda-like as well. I’m no expert on the matter, but I do quite like the style, and this doesn’t taste like any Vienna I’ve had, more like a really bad effort at a doppelbock. Soda bomb.

12 oz bottle. Clear brownish orange, thin white head. Malty and nutty aroma, very clean. Malty Munich/carmel flavor. Very clean. Very drinkable and full of flavor for a light lager. True to the Vienna style, and well done.

Malty and sweet aroma on an amber colored beer with a cream colored head. Nice balance of malt and hops, some spice. Pretty good.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2006 Absolutely gorgeous. Huge tan head on a clear cherry coke colored beer. Nose of vanilla, classic floral hops, and sweet malts. Taste of malts, vanilla, toffee, and bitter hops, with a long bitter finish. A little thin in the mouth, and dry, almost tannic, almost nutty, almost astringent.

dark amber with thin tan head. Light roasted malt caramel aroma with light hop background. Flavour is sweet caramel malts and light bitters. Medium body.

served on tap at the brewery. Pours a dark amber brown color with absolutely no head. Does look kinda like soda. Flavor is caramel malts, slightly roasted nut and bitter hop undertone. Overall, decent but not my favorite.

Right up there with Sam Adams. Hazy orange color, frothy white head. Aroma is sweet with some earthy type smells(twigs, grass). Tart flavor. Moderate body, balanced finsih, but not that interesting.

sample at brewery - large tan head over toffee colored liquid. Sweeter malts and some hops and wood on the finsh. Nice.

I detect apples, dark fruits and raisin in this very smooth well balanced beer. I had it at the brewery on tap. The aroma seems a bit weak and the flavor isn’t very pronounced-it just exists to appeal. The malty quotient here was appealing I have to say.

The sample of this that I had was a bit old, but still stood out as being pretty good. A nice change and something work trying.
