COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the 1700s through the early 1900s steamboats were used to transport people and produce the length of Seneca Lake. If there were passengers at a dock a white flag was flown during the day and a red flag in the evening. Amber Lager is a malty, full-bodied Vienna style lager. Its strong malt flavor and aroma arise from generous amounts of Vienna and Caramel malts, complimented by a delicate aroma of Tettnang and Hallertau hops. Wagner Brewing Company is pleased to announce that we received an award for excellence for Wagner Valley Dockside Amber Lager.

This is a fairly tasty dark lager. Usually I am not a big fan of lagers, but this is malty and sweet with a nice bitter balance. Excellent aroma and very carbonated, this is a good beer.

On tap at Mahars. Poured brown with a small head. Aroma was weak, but pleasantly sweet. Flavor very full sweetness, very tasty brew.

Bottle. Dark amber body, minimal head, sweet malty nose. Caramel, molasses, sweet malts, not much in the hop department.

(Bottle). Spicy malt aroma. Dark reddish-amber body, large off-white head. Flavor is woody, slightly sweet, plenty of character.

VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 18, 2002
Transparent caramel color. Creamy off white edge head. Slow rising tiny bubbled carbonation. Solid Vienna malt aroma, clean water and spicy hops. Toasty and mellow with a smooth feel to it. Gentle malt sweetness. Clean, quenching light body. Long Vienna malt aftertaste and a building German hop balance. Very fresh tasting. Finishes richer with a more noticeable caramel topping. Tasty.

Light orange-red with small white head. Aroma malty. Medium light body. Off-dry with some caramel malt sweetness. Finishes off-dry as well. Ok.

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color. The aroma was lightly toasted caramel. The flavor was smooth, somewhat nutty, malty with a light hop character mixed in. Overall, smooth and tasty!

Clear, light amber color with particles throughout. Thin head and lace. Nose of vienna malt, caramel, minerals, spicy hops and others. Light to medium bodied, lots of carb bite, takes away from smoothness a bit. Vienna malts are in full affect, toast and caramelized. The tettnags really make their mark and seem a little mightier then the hallertau’s in this particular brew. Mineral notes are strong throughout, I think its what Venom described as clean water. Flavors linger long after finish. A fresh and damn tasty brew that would benifit from less carbonation IMHO.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2012 Bottle. I drank this with a meal (grilled pork chops) and thought it was spot on A nice hefty Vienna-style lager. Some malty sweetness, not much hop flavor. Possibly my favorite from this brewery/winery.

Looks like iced tea, minimal head. I smell hints of coffee, malty and sweet. Tastes malty and sweet too. Kinda like a werthers original candy to me...decent but a bit too sweet
