From the 1700s through the early 1900s steamboats were used to transport people and produce the length of Seneca Lake. If there were passengers at a dock a white flag was flown during the day and a red flag in the evening. Amber Lager is a malty, full-bodied Vienna style lager. Its strong malt flavor and aroma arise from generous amounts of Vienna and Caramel malts, complimented by a delicate aroma of Tettnang and Hallertau hops. Wagner Brewing Company is pleased to announce that we received an award for excellence for Wagner Valley Dockside Amber Lager.

As with many of wagners beers this one was more assertively hoppy than I was expecting. Unfortunately it didnt quite fit with this lager as the grassy hop flavor overwhelmed the delicate sweet malty side of this offering.

Feb. 2, 2006; 12 oz. bottle.

Pretty good for the style which, admittedly, is not my favorite -- being just *too* malty-sweet for my hop-craving palate; trying to rate accordingly. Reminiscent of the Sam Adams Octoberfest. Pleasant, candy-ish aroma and smooth, spicy mouthfeel. Have five more in the pack, and may re-rate after further review.

Hazy amber color, with a relatively neutral nose with some malty notes. Beer is nicely balanced and easy to drink. It is hard to say the beer should be more expresive, as it is a clean, balanced style, but it seems that it could be more.

Malty aroma with a deep red/brown color Tastes full bodied with heavy malt flavor and some light hoppiness. A little too heavy/ rich for summer days.

An earthy, spicy and assertive hop flavor was decently balanced with subtle malt character. The best Wagner has to offer.

Seemed true to style. Big malt balanced by noble hops. Didnt expect much from a brewery in a winery, but the beers were exceptional.

Excessively carbonated-tasted like some weird soda pop. Bottle says it's a Vienna style lager but I've never tasted anything like this one. Whoever awarded Wagner Valley an award for this beer obviously didn't get a bottle from my 6-pack. It was fresh - much too fresh and very raw to the palate with a sugary caramel aftertaste. Too bad - I've enjoyed some of their other products but I won't buy this one again..
