Black with a tight tan head. Big cherry soda aroma. Smooth slick mouthfeel. Medium body. Nice balance of artificial cherry soda flavoring with a rich dose of black malts. The fake cherry flavor lingers far too long in the finish, much like a diet soda would, this ruins an otherwise tasty base stout. Draft@ Horse Brass. Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of cherries as well as light notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cherries and almonds, as well as benzaldehyd and chocolate, reminding me of the chocolate Mon Cheri - not my thing in a beer. The finish is dry with the cherry note still lingering. raphael (1254) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 20, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 26, 2008 [when I did the originally review I sent it before putting int he numbers] On tap at Hose Brass. The aroma is "Cherry! Any Questions?" a good balance of sweet and black, cant find enough light to seee through this beer, to see if theres any reddish hue (dark even at 2pm in here). tannish head thats scant. the aroma is definitely sour cherry, backed (but not balanced) by roasted malt & coffee tones blackmurder (236) - Whitaker, Oregon, USA - MAY 10, 2008
Aroma is fine if you like black cherry or pepsi. Taste is fine if you like cherry pepsi. Pour is fine if you like cherry pepsi. You get the idea. pnista (1007) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - APR 8, 2008
On tap at Henry’s Tavern. Pours a darker reddish brown without much of a head. The nose is full of, well, black cherry. Sweet and fruity, with that strong cherry acidity. Theres some roast and some small dry chocolate. The mouthfeel is fuller and creamier with subtle fullness. Flavors are in line with the nose. Really opens up as it warms. The cherry is there, The chocolate is larger, with roast to boot. A nice smokey subtlety emerged. Lingering acidity is perhaps a bit stronger than I enjoy, and leads to acid the whole way through, but really nice to drink anyways.

On tap at Henry’s in Portland--Poured a deep thick black body with a minuscule wispy beige head. Nose of robust chocolate, malts, and bright vibrant cherry sweetness. A super desert beer! SuzyGreenberg (1603) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 14, 2008
sampled @ brewpub - the only "dark" beer on the menu during my visit; jet black with creamy pink head; aromas mix of roasted malts and cherries; cherry hints in the flavor are smooth and sweet and mixed with chocolate; a little thin, but creamy texture; a very nice stout WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 7, 2008
07-08 Road Trip with BikesandBeer. Had at Horsebrass Pub in Portland. Pours black half finger light brown head. Nose is nice and sweet with a cherry smell. Taste is very cherry, full of that flavor with a not much of a stout. It ain’t NG unplugged cherry stout but its good. mistersinalin (381) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - AUG 15, 2007
Had sample of this at the Collins Pub in Seattle. Wish I could get nother one so I could have more than one taste. It was creamy, chocolatey, cherry juice. DrBayern (1139) - Morehead City, North Carolina, USA - JUL 29, 2007
Draft at Walking Man in Stevenson, OR on 7/22/07. Nearly opaque black with ruby accents when held to the light. Medium ltan head and some decent lace. Cherries notable right off the bat, folloewed by some chocolate and roasted nuts. Smooth and creamy with a full body. Surprisingly , this isn’t overly sweet. That’s not to say it isn’t sweet, because it is, but it’s not cloying. It’s like eating a piece of Black Forest Cherry Cake. Not soething I would drink often, but as a dessert beer it would be nice from time to time.
